Not lots of snow and ice in my area. We actually raised our foundation two rows of block so we actually have about 6 steps. My husband likes the aluminum for the structure but not for the treads. I thought about brick but feel like that will look way too heavy with 6 or so steps. That’s a lot of brick in the garage. My husband mentioned concrete treads and the aluminum rep said they could do a form with the aluminum for the concrete to be poured into (tread portion). That’s an option but again I’m worried it will look industrial (maybe stain the concrete treads??). My husband is all about structure and durability and while I am too, I still consider the details. We work together well, but I’m struggling with how to make the aluminum stairs look nice and unique without looking industrial. I keep reminding myself it’s just a garage that few guests will see, but I also think about the fact that I’LL see them as I’ll be using them almost every day. The one thing I do know is I don’t want metal stair treads.

My advice would be to completely ignore the absurd/off-track/presumptive/condescending/snide/sarcastic/accusatory “noise” if you can, and only engage with those who are courteous and offer thoughtful feedback. Oh: And don’t let the PRO label fool you. True professionals don’t try to keep their identities (first AND last name, phone number, address, etc.) a secret, nor do they provide fake contact information and/or credentials on their profile page. They also don’t hide behind ironic or clever (to them) profile photos and usernames. It disgusts me that I even felt the need to write what I just did, but the behaviors exhibited by the people that prompted me to write it disgust me even more. An "appendage" garage is very commonly added to a main side-load garage. Usually site constraints are the governing issue. Using @cd7733 's pic for illustration, the important components are making sure you have the space in the corner where the BLUE rectangle is. That allows the front to swing out when backing out of the inside corner garage all the way to street. That area can also serve as a daily backhouse entrance. The ORANGE rectangle inside is an efficient way for storage and to connect the garages rather than through the house. As an additional crutch if the site allows, a turn-around area of the driveway is good for 3-point turns so you can drive forward out of the driveway (shown in RED arrows but came out pretty sloppy, sorry). There are many iterations that can happen in terms of layout, which garage is where (maybe 4 + 1 appendage, 3 + 2 detached with breezeway, 2+2+1 tandem, etc), whether it's a separated in-law suite, whatever.
