Trex or Azek decking if in the US; concrete or stone if in France. French is capitalized even if its not really French.

In US and looking for ideas in reference to aesthetics and durability rather than availability or correct spelling / grammar. Thanks for being the grammar police. Much more helpful than actually offering suggestions. With technology today I have many grammar mishaps with autocorrect, but hopefully I still manage to get the correct message conveyed. 😉

How many steps are there, anyway? Probably not more than two, right? My garage step is just the standard 1” or so wood (pine?) tread, painted white. I don't think I’ve ever even seen garage steps done any other way, except for maybe brick.

In my old house the one step was concrete. Worked great. I could wash it down when I did the floor.

I'm in snow country and stairs around here in garages poured concrete. Durable and easy to sweep/clean.

Last house had 3 steps from the garage into the house. They were wood. Current house is a single step. It's concrete.

If you live in a climate that gets snow and ice, I would not do any type of metal steps. Even a heated garage can get cold, and the melting snow or ice might refreeze overnight.

Not lots of snow and ice in my area. We actually raised our foundation two rows of block so we actually have about 6 steps. My husband likes the aluminum for the structure but not for the treads. I thought about brick but feel like that will look way too heavy with 6 or so steps. That’s a lot of brick in the garage. My husband mentioned concrete treads and the aluminum rep said they could do a form with the aluminum for the concrete to be poured into (tread portion). That’s an option but again I’m worried it will look industrial (maybe stain the concrete treads??). My husband is all about structure and durability and while I am too, I still consider the details. We work together well, but I’m struggling with how to make the aluminum stairs look nice and unique without looking industrial. I keep reminding myself it’s just a garage that few guests will see, but I also think about the fact that I’LL see them as I’ll be using them almost every day. The one thing I do know is I don’t want metal stair treads.

Trex - easiest to make look good, IMO.

I have 3 wide steps and a landing going from garage to house currently - it's just pressure treated - it's 23 years old and looks fine still.

If you have that many steps, make sure your landing at the top is large enough to pause and set things down to get your door unlocked, etc

Who is going to see this if it is in the garage. I sure would not be spending my money on this mundane issue get what works for the best price or post some pics if this is not in the garage. I agree to make sure there is a landing at the top not just the door.

I do have a 3’x4’ landing planned. Like I said previously, very few guests will see this, but I will see it every day and that’s what matters most. Every decision I’ve made during this building process I’ve tried to be sure it looks nice, but most importantly I’ve tried to make sure it works for my family. Pricing is not much different between the Trex, treated lumber, and metal. Most expensive is the Trex, aluminum second, treated lumber least. All within a few hundred dollars difference. So my thoughts are if I’m spending the money anyway, why not consider all options and try to choose what works best. My husband wants the aluminum so that’s probably what we’ll go with. Now I’m just trying to figure out the best tread options for the aluminum as I do not want aluminum treads.
