Design Dilemma Kitchens Paint

This doesn't mesh well...

Hello all! We renovated the kitchen after a flooding, and are in the looming home stretch BUT it seems to me that the island color would look better painted. As of now it is stained oak (shoulda woulda coulda done all that different). Doesn't seem to blend well. Any advice on colors? Perimeter cabinets are white, topped with black honed granite. Island is topped with cream colored Taj Majal. Left wall cabinets awaiting instalation marked with red X (see pic). Please excuse the mess!!!

Too many mismatches. Paint it black, to match the perimeter counters so that there isn’t so much mismatch. But only if the floors are wood. Because there needs to be the warmth of wood somewhere. If the floors are tile, keep the wood island, and get rid of the black perimeter counters and use the same island counters on the perimeter.

I don't wanna be all grey grey grey, but in this case if you painted it a mid grey it could look very pretty, I think.

I just sowed the last of my cilantro seeds this past weekend, and they've already sprouted. The first batch was started in April and was fully grown (and eaten!) by mid-May. They grow fast and bolt in the heat, so I decided to do 2 batches with the hot months in-between. I've had success transplanting basil and rosemary from indoor starts. I'm in Zone 5/6, and started my tomato seedlings in mid April for late May transplant, and believe me, they were more than ready! For basil, started 6 weeks before planting out, and 10 weeks for the rosemary. I think I could've done 12 weeks for the rosemary, as it took longer for it to get established. Rattlesnake as dried or shelly bean?

I'll eat just about any bean as a shelly if it gets away from me, as long as it isn't too hard to shell. I'm no expert on how shellies are supposed to be, but Rattlesnake shellies seem OK to me...just not as big as most of the varieties that are touted as shellies.

Half of Rhododendron doesn't feel well and possibly dying...

When a portion of a rhododendron dies like this, the usual cause is boytryosphaeria fungal infection, commonly known as branch or stem dieback. Unfortunately, there is no fungicide that can treat this infection once its symptoms become obvious. I would certainly check with your extension service or state agriculture department to confirm this diagnosis as photographs are no substitute for direct examination. Stressed plants - too wet, too dry, too hot - are prone to this kind of infection. Check the moisture level of the soil and do not water unless there's a need. If boytryosphaeria is confirmed, the best you can do is cut out the dead parts and provide what's left with ideal growing conditions. What species of cyclamen is growing under the rhododendron?

Hey There: Please don't choose the fabrics for your blinds just from any color swatches. I suggest that you finish painting your rooms first and then start all over with the colors of your window treatment. Keep in mind, that the wall color reflects and play with the window treatment fabric as well as different light.

I guess I'd ask what color do YOU like? What colors are in your table, chairs, adjoining rooms? It's nice to coordinate with other colors you have around your home.

It doesn't have to be a bold color, it could be a light shade that perhaps picks up something from the backsplash. Hard to see those colors.

Everything doesn't have to be done immediately either. Live with it, maybe move in some accent items like vases, bowls, things you like, and see if an accent color comes to mind that you can live with for a long time.

I like it being wood but the problem to me is too many not matching wood tones (that look like they were supposed to match) The island, the beams, the barn door, the beam over the barn door- all different similar tones. First I would paint the door to match the adjacent door, and maybe the beam above it as well. I would then refinish the island with a walnut tone without the orange to blend with the beams better,

IMO if you choose to have a different counter on the island then those cabinets should be the same as the perimeter cabinets

What about dark stain like you beams? I personally prefer to have one wood color, but not always option. We have two in current home, so I think you need to keep it as one of used wood color. If not, white would be my preference to not add another finish.

Thanks Sophie for your insight. The floors are in fact tile, a very warm brown. Somehow I feel if the style was barn door black would look so nice.

Mowtownmom, that is another issue....I don't have furniture (yet). I agree it is nice to coordinate finishes. You asked what I like, well.. I know I DON'T like the orange tone of island, it reminds me of our before look (stained oak panels walls) and I was sick of it. I will post a closeup of backsplash and countertop...

Thank you HALLET & Co., I agree on there being too many different wood tones. The island is definitely too orange. Those wood shelves to right of barn door will eventually be white, (as perimeter cabinets) and to left there will be a Stainless fridge. I like you walnut stain advice, but I ahouls have not chosen oak. Totally dislike pattern. I am interested to know, what you think about an olive green painted island?

Happy Friday all! Thought I'd share the color we ended up with. After more than a week sanding, priming & painting (like a mad woman) I have to say I am pleased with result. I intially was going for grey but decidef to add some color. Thank you all for your help!!
