Which senior medical alert system is best?
Comments (60)I agree with earlier poster :Stay away from any product that is under the umbrella of Connect America. I used Medical Alert - one of their products - they own many, approximately 10 products- including Guardian on call for ex- tried both the mobile & in- home unit - not only do they not perform as advertised ( not able to communicate into mobile - so they can not talk to you nor you to them -so not able to determine if there is really a problem or if you're just testing, so for ex, they call emergency #s just for the test-those of you who pay for EMS coming should beware-when I complained about this they say it's because dispatchers are doing job extra well-hard to imagine a more pathetic answer). the in home stationary unit can't pick up a voice in the next room, despite claims that they can do that within 100 feet - there's incompetence on every level- and I figured out how to reach executive office -basic and essential info which i repeatedly provided even to higher ups was repeatedly recorded Incorrectly (existence & location of lock box, phone numbers, protocol of who should be called in what order, preferred hospital, the list goes on) and whenever a mistake was pointed out they attribute to customer instructions as excuse. They went so far as to send a tech to the home but failed to tell tech which system we were using - turns out tech had never seen it before. Amazing they're still in business. Plus if one pays over phone with cc when you get device the " contract" tries to make you sign off on allowing them to directly extract $ from your cc or checking acct- no alternative is offerred- they never disclose that they are keeping your credit card on file when you call - VERY sneaky. I should have listened to my intuition - when shopping around I was asked what other companies I was looking at & they trashed them with inaccurate info - which wa offensive. Someone I know used them so I let that trump my better judgement but I'm warning all of you -stay away. Would also like to know if DS Smallwood got the touch & talk unit...does no further info indicate a problem with that product?...See MoreFor those of you who are Buying
Comments (38)I feel for the OP, but I agree that you have to tolerate buyers and learn to live with it. We sold 3 yrs ago and I would never want to go through that again. Took 3 months for the first offer and people came at all times, day and night. We lived close to NYC so we would get people coming after work and had many evening showings. All our weekends were shot. Couldn't plan anything because the house had to be clean and we had to leave. One thing which helped was our Realtor tried to be present at each showing. I don't know how she did it, but she would arrange the showings to fit her schedule. I know many people don't like having the listing agent present, but for us it worked. We always got feedback because she was there. She kept an eye on what went on, although she didn't follow anyone around. I think presence was enough to prevent problems. I don't know if your agent could come during showings. It would help. I did find people showing up, unannounced unnerving. Our house was set back from the road quite a distance, and occassionally someone would be near the door or in the yard taking pictures. It would startle me and I didn't like it. I almost called the police on a few occassions. Now I'm a buyer and I try to respect a house and a schedule. Sometimes missing an appointment can't be predicted, it happens. I always turn off lights and close doors. Selling takes a lot of patience and strength. You are probably new to the process, hopefully your house sells quickly and you can be done with it. If not, you'll learn to 'roll with punches.' Good luck, Jane...See MorePicture Problems
Comments (27)Hi mom2emall - glad I'm not the only one - I just feel the need to vent, humor me for a moment if you don't mind since I can't do this in real life - My DH ex did much the same as what you just described, in our situation the vehicle was actually repoed and then, since DH was co-signer, the creditor came after DH. We paid thousands in legal fees and his credit was destroyed for many years. A year after she left DH she went out and got a credit card in his name and maxed it out buying items for the new house she was living in with her new significant other -only thing that saved him from having to pay that bill was the fact that he had already filed for divorce - his lawyer contacted the attorney general of our state who intervened and forced the creditor to reissue the debt in her name only - all this while she had no regard for how her child was being fed or clothed - before and after I came along she was in and out of his life when it was convenient for her, sometimes we went years and never heard a word from her - honestly that was easier - when she came around my SS was a mess for weeks afterwards. Once when my SS was in 2nd grade - she called and asked DH if she could pick him up from school the next day - he told her yes foolishly thinking great maybe she's going to start actually taking an interest in her child. The day came and at 5 pm she calls the house asking me if I have SS. What? No you asked if you could pick him up - and her response? Oh, well I forgot I have no idea where he is. School let out at 3 pm - he was 7 years old at this time. In retrospect I guess we should have been grateful she even bothered calling to let us know he was missing - The biggest thing that gets under my skin about this woman is that for 10 + years now, I & DH have been raising her child without a dime of support from her, yet she has plenty of money to buy cigarettes, to feed her numerous cats & dogs, and to go out drinking - I guess it really does come down to what your priorities are in life. I have never said one bad word about this woman to my SS or in front of him ever - I have had to leave the room and even the house at times in order not to - and people wonder why I cannot stand the sight of her - why it is a BATTLE to remain civil. I understand there are plenty of good BM - I try not to lump them all in the same category - I think my SS's BM is an extreme example of one of the worst, when I read your story about the school pictures I laughed out loud. Its exactly something I could picture her doing as well....See MoreUltra Simple Cell Phone Search
Comments (14)not true for all flip phones. we got 2 of them by going into walmarts and looking for a flip phone as a pay as you go, no contract phone. The phones are cheap, mine was 19.99 and when I went back a few weeks later to get my dh one, the model was being discontinued so i paid 9.99 for his. You would be very surprised to find that the always manned circular sales counter in the cell phone and electronics the people there are extremely knowledgeable about all the phones... from cheap, easy to use flips all the way up to the latest smart phones. They will match you up with a flip phone and a prepaid phone card, no contract required. You can purchase the cards in store thereafter, or after registering your phone with the plan/card company that is offered you can choose auto payment from cc or debit. We buy the cards in store. They come with a scratch off serial pin on the back. It takes 2 seconds to sign in, click add a plan, since you wouldn't hit buy a plan, you already purchased minutes by buying the card, enter the serial pin number>hit enter and you're good to go. You can do this before your 30 days are up, they will show as in reserve and will take effect when your current 30 day period ends. You will get text telling you, with an audio sound, as well, that your minutes/days of service end on your end date. One time onlyy. You need not answer nor even acknowledge the text. Likewise, you will get a text telling you that your purchased days of service plan is set, There is no charge for this Does it allow texts? yes. Can you send texts? yes. Do we? No. Never. Does it have a camera? Yes. But no one has to use it. Is there are browser? yes. Again, we do not use it. It shows on the viewing window on the right hand side. On the left side is menu. If you accidentally open it you can instantly close it. Shut the cover/flip down. And the op could indeed set up her DH's simple flip phone to be used between them for simple and easy 1 button communication. She could easily go into settings>call settings>one touch dial, also known as speed dial She could set her number on his phone as say, no. 2 click ok, close. She can also go to settings>call settings>answer mode>flip open and/or any key. Go to main menu, last row down, second from left>accessibility >large text>click ok Now hubby just needs to open/flip the phone and hit the number 2 on the keypad, and hit send. He will see that number 2 in the window viewing pane. It will indeed be large. The mrs does not have to have a flip phone to use this system with dh's phone. Her phone, too can have speed dial/one touch dialing It really is simple to use, and the op can do all the settings. Hubby just needs to keep his number known only to his wife or anyone else he might possibly want to add to his speed dial/one touch calling eta: there is also the option of keeping/transferring your current phone number to this phone....See Morewildchild2x2
