It’s not just your house, it’s every house that doesn’t have a molding to cover the bottom of the baseboard. Crisp square baseboard is the “in” thing right now, but people don’t realize how hard this is to accomplish without gaps. The proper way for that to be trimmed is with a shoe mold or quarter-round to cover the gaps. No floor is completely level. Your wide baseboard will not flex with the contours of your floor. A shoe or quarter will. You have two options: Live with the gaps or trim it out with shoe/quarter round. I lost a very large sell not long ago because of this. A lady was asking me if our floor would work in this scenario. I told her it really had nothing to do with the flooring, but the flatness to level of her sub-floor. I informed her that she would have gaps and that the only variable would be how large those gaps would be. She didn’t like the reality check and told me she would be buying her flooring from someone else… oh well Your builder could get a wider base, scribe the contour and cut the bottom to fit if it's really bothering you that much. I have the same problem! It's so frustrating. We 104 year old white pine floors that we refinished and coated with Bona. A sealer and two coats. We used a sealer and two coats on the Doug fir floors elsewhere in our house and they are VERY smooth, the floor is like one continuum. We refinished maple floors in our former home - no problem there. The oak has tons of grain rise. So so bumpy. I thought it might be due to a) the large-ish gaps between most of the boards - the poly got thinned out as it sank into the holes and b) short cure time of the sealer since the weather was cool and damp. I lightly sanded between the coats of poly. Our plan is to buff, recoat and repete. Do you guys think the rentalable buffer would sand it down enough?

Wood comes from trees. Different parts of the trees. Entirely different trees. Different forests for different trees. Different states for different trees. And wood behaves like wood. You can have all the uniformity you want if you choose plastic. Maybe laminate would have been a better choice for you, rather than real wood. Thst looks like real wood, and has behaved like real wood. And it’s great looking. You just need rugs and furniture.

I had these floor gaps start within a month throughout our entire house after our floor contractors installed Bona. Worse than just dark color cracks in my opinion. The cracks are more often white where the Bona seal is cracked / broken apart. Our installer was confused what could have happened, the company had previously never seen this happen. Both the contactor and I called Bona for help when this occured nearly 3.5 years ago.. Bona afforded no help other than saying it must have been caused by a temperature issue of the floors in the house when installed. As more time passes more and more cracks appear. I hate my floors and I will never install Bona again.
