Comments (57)Thanks Babs. I sometimes see a few scales even now, and I just pick them off with a Q-tip with a little alcohol. But when it's outdoors, when it's warm, I actually really blast the whole tree with the garden hose. I go all over, under, around etc. with quite a strong spray of water. I hold each leaf and make sure it's clean. Really not that hard to do, and only once is fine. It really helps to remove debris, scales etc. The plant seems to enjoy it!...See MoreJanuary 2018 "show us some of your plants" please this month!
Comments (220)Lizardhandz I am glad to hear that someone is using similar (in this case I would say 'the same' :) mix! I hope you'll have excellent result with it. I grow all succulents in it, and even few smaller potted tropical plants. I would use it for big ones too but big pots get heavy with so much grit. Color of your mix is very nice too - it depends on color of chicken grit a lot. What I bought in past, was white. Latest bag has some grayish speckles to it - it comes from different supplier I was told. Your plant has beautiful color. It is supposedly xPachysedsedum of uncertain origin, with one of the parents possibly S. craigii (responsible for color of leaves). It is suppose to grow several stems from the base, so I wonder if yours may be inflorescence? But it looks more like leaves, so maybe not. In case it blooms, pls. post photos! And do so even if it doesn't bloom :)...See MoreShow Us Your Gardens - A Photo Thread - March 2018
Comments (47)Too late for that, Bill. I cleared a whole lot more of the pine branches and tried to raise up the holly but it was too heavy and there were branches in the way. The fallen holly was blocking the path so I then cut off about 4 or 5 feet of the top of the fallen holly but left 4 or 5 feet of the broken section. That gave me enough room to pass by. After more clearing of pine branches and huffing and puffing, I had my path open again. I was emboldened to try to raise the holly again now that it was lighter and not blocked, and I managed to raise it up straight and lash it to a major piece of the broken pine. I have no idea if the holly can heal that splinted portion but at least it has a chance, and maybe the intact leaves will be able to feed the roots for long enough to help root sprouting. It's a good thing I'm not a neat and tidy gardener. I have pieces of pine trees lying all over the place - maybe I can pass them off as decorative elements? Comments (148)http://www.llifle.com/Encyclopedia/SUCCULENTS/Family/Dracaenaceae/33254/Sansevieria_gracilis It does look like gracilis to me but it also looks like pictures of b allyi. Synonyms would make sense. I hope you're able to find something, rina. I found this: "It is closely related to Sansevieria gracilis but differs in shorter stolons, shorter leaves with rough surface, distinctive colour banding and shorter inflorescence. The species was only named as S. ballyi by Len Newton in 2004, although it has been in cultivation for a while and is now reasonably common, but it is often still encountered as ‘Sansevieria sp. Bally 12681’. The cultivars 'Minnie' appears to be a dwarf form of S. ballyi with much shorter and stubby leaves and grows to about 5 cm across before sending out stolons." -http://www.llifle.com/Encyclopedia/PLANT/Family/Dracaenaceae/32498/Sansevieria_ballyi aloebot - Do you remenber the provenance of this plant? Do you remember how it got that tag? I was wanting to ask you how long you had some of these plants anyway....See MoreBunny
