Any experience with a Miele or other plumbed-in coffee machine?
Comments (80)Bitter is usually too long of extraction so try reducing your extraction time. Can you adjust the grind & tamp pressure? Generally you want a grind+tamp that results in about 9-12 seconds from initial pressure to espresso first coming out and then 20-25 seconds of pour for a total extraction time of 30-35 seconds. These all vary by bean, roast and batch so if you cannot adjust them then finding a bean & roast that most often results in these might be your only option. Keep in mind that these Miele machines do not maintain the pressures and temperatures of regular espresso machines nor do they use a proper tamped puck so it's difficult/impossible to get a good shot from them. For a semi-automatic a Breville Oracle (regular or touch) is a better option....See Moremiele coffee system.
Comments (9)The are a few things you can change to make the coffee weaker. First change the amount of coffee (settings, amount of coffee, hit the Taste the coffee. Assuming you were using a mild colombian blend, then those settings should give you a pretty weak cup of coffee. If it doesn't, then call for service as there may be something wrong. Once you have it weak, start changing things back until you get it how you like it. First I'd recommend increasing the amt of coffee (if max or close to max cup size, try it at 1/4 the way from the left). If its still slightly weaker than you'd prefer then try changing the pre-brewing setting to normal (settings, pre-brewing, normal) as this will make your coffee more flavorful and get you a crema. Then set the grinder slightly less coase until then crema comes out a light to medium brown color. Then either lessen the amt of water or increase the amt of coffee to taste. We don't like a very strong coffee either, and our settings are middle amount of coffee, just shy of the max amount of water, normal pre-brew and a fairly coarse grind, made with a medium colombian brew. When we do want it stronger, or have a guest that does, we can add a shot of espresso and that seems to do the trick. My sister loves making a latte with espresso shot when she visits. Good luck! Comments (5)Trying to find a solution as well... sadly, insetting the coffeemaker would interfere with joists, any suggestions would be appreciated... I have little counter space available on the working side of the kitchen... only 24 inches on either side of the cooktop and don't really want to put it in the island... I thought maybe I could move the microwave/convection unit to one end of the island and possibly place it on top of the wall oven... not sure if that would be too high? I would like to have the wall oven at the same height as the island so I can easily offload pans...See MoreLocation & height of built-in Miele coffee maker?
Comments (3)Thank you for your reply, we did tell the kitchen designer that we wanted the bottom of the coffee maker to be at counter height. But she emailed us the plans back for our approval with the trim piece of cabinet that goes between the top of coffee maker and the bottom of microwave centered between the upper cabinets and the countertop (making the middle of the coffee maker almost level with countertop). Hope this makes sense.:) We will have 9'1 ceilings in the kitchen and the cabinets will be double stacked with glass uppers with a small crown going to the ceiling, so we should be able to fit both the microwave and the coffee maker in a custom cabinet, hmmmm. If we have the coffee maker at counter level, is it ok to have the microwave below counter height? Or should we stick with the designers plan to meet them in the middle but have the coffee maker above the microwave? I think this whole cabinet designing is going to fun since so far looking at the drawing she never listen to anything we said, lol....See Moreopaone
