Imidacloprid every or every other year for aphids?
Comments (3)It might be of interest to US gardeners to know that Imidacloprid (as well as Thiomethoxam) has just been withdrawn from use in the European Union for 2 years while more research is carried out into the effects of neonicotinoids on bee populations. This in response to a report by the European Food Safety Authority which identified potential risks to bee health from the chemicals. Lindens are bee magnets when in bloom. Lindens get very large and attempting to keep them aphid free is going to be an enormous and never ending job. They just get aphids - that is their nature. If that is a real problem to you I would be inclined to choose a different tree. Have you tried just pointing the hose at the tree and spraying it forcefully every so often? Also I don't think there is any point in fertilising an established 24 year old tree. Here is a link that might be useful: Imidacloprid...See MoreDo you get your pressure canner or dial tested every year?
Comments (9)Yes that is the right one. No it will be easier to keep the pressure steady as the weights do the work. The 3 Presto weights are machined to gently rock continuously when at pressure rather than just a couple of times a minute as with other brands. You can hear them steadily rocking. Ideally you should not have to make any heat adjustments during pressure canning once the pressure is achieved. Trying to fine tune pressure based on a gauge causes siphoning and other issues. With a weighted canner that isn't necessary. Once converted note that your processing times and or pressures used will change on some foods. When in doubt use the NCHFP instructions. Comments (1)So what did the soil test say about your soil? What is the soil pH? How much organic matter is in that soil? How well does that soil drain? Or how well does that soil retain moisture? What does that soil smell like? How well does the sslightly moist soil hold together? How well does that slightly moist soil fall apart? What is the soil life like? How many earthworms do you see?...See MoreWhy do I do this to myself every year??
Comments (21)Thank you WIP08. After many, many tries with sms alerts from a website called wiialert, I was able to order one today! I was able to order one a week ago from Sears, but my order was cancelled the next day, and my money was refunded. Apparently Sears has a marketplace, just like Amazon, and it wasn't from Sears but another vendor through Sears, and I suppose the seller realized he could get 2X as much as the retail price, he cancelled my order and relisted it for twice the price. Then a friend of mine in the South put it on FB, and one of her friends stepped up and was willing to sell it to me. But when I contacted her, she never responded. Then on Leapfrog's fb page people were recommending to try these websites that alert you when they come back in stock. You have to be really quick, b/c they will sell out in less than 2 minutes. After numerous attempts, I finally was able to order one today. During all this, a friend of mine became really ill and was hospitalized. In addition, my sister had surgery and had to have half her thyroid removed. I decided not to make myself crazy over it, because in the end, it's really not that important. I just didn't want to disappoint my daughter, who has been talking about the silly leappad every day with her sister. In the end I got one (at least I'm hoping I did). I just think it's really sad that there ARE so many available through scalpers on eBay and Amazon, who want to take advantage of parents like me who just want to give their kid the ONE toy they are asking for at Christmas....See Morefunctionthenlook
