Kitchen Cabinet Color Help, Cool & Warm Grey in 1 Kitchen

We are renting and trying to choose a kitchen cabinet color. At this time we cannot change the counter top (which I hate) that was a lot of warm grey (think mink, truffle, greige) in it nor can we change the cool gray linoleum floor. We do not want white kitchen cabinets but we're open to anything. We are painting the walls as well but want to start with the kitchen cabinet color. Any thoughts appreciated!

What are they made out of? That will limit your color choices dramatically

What about navy blue? It works with both warm and cool tones, and is a color that acts as a neutral.

Love the ideas above. I'm like you love the natural and not so into colour. I've got herbs bamboo blinds and a Big end grain cutting board in our black and white kitchen. I've also got a small wool rug on the floor with deep reds and blues. The Dutch put these rugs on their tables and mine is probably too valuable to go on the floor but it sure looks nice.

Will a light gray clash/look strange with the warm tones of the cabinets and floors? I feel like the only other option is white, which I really do not want to do. Gray is not a problem in and of itself, but the one you have chosen has cool undertones that may not be flattering to your warm woods. White is not the only other option. A warmer gray can absolutely work. Below is Owl Gray; its green undertones could make your floors look orange. Compare that to the greige below, a warm grey beige from Farrow and Ball that makes your floors look mercifully brown. These hues are not that different, but their effect on your space is huge. For backsplash we are looking at marble tiles of some sort (either brick pattern or herringbone). If you can wait to pick a bs that will give you the option to see sample tiles in your space with your materials in your light. That said, nothing makes faux marble counters look faux-er than a real marble bs. In the image below, the bs looks like the real thing (because it is) and the counters look like plastic. It's also a lot of "stone" look in one place. That said, people do it all the time. Google your counter and maple cabinets and save images of kitchens that you like. It may help you find a look you love.

Yes, on a Sunday- The drywallers showed up this am to start putting up the sheet-rock.. FLo- waiting on a rendering/drawing for the 2 masterbath towers from the kd. Went to the local little island hardware store that carrys BM paint, brought back a bunch of paint chips to look at in the house for a start.. Because the house is very open, looking for something that I can use in/for kitchen, foyer, Dr & living areas. Jan- we are building on a small island, off of another island, no designers here on this island...I agree with you on the floor issue, I just need to convince dh- about the flow and using wood throughout.

Hi, Penelope-- You're right to pick up on the fact that the new gold hardware trend (or even mixed metals) is currently shown most often with crisp white as the palette neutral. I'd recommend going right down the line with Ultra Pure White (also known as untinted base white), sold by every paint manufacturer and so, forever easy to match and touch-up in the future once you match the sheens. Swiss Coffee is the other tone that's available across major manufacturers, but I think that'd be too warm for your palette here, as you're wisely cautious against. Other surfaces bring in the character and warmth, but if you want fresh, clean white, I'd keep it simple so it always reads as the true neutral barometer against accents. Cheers!

I've been considering navy blue but our kitchen is small and doesn't alot of sunlight. I'm concerned that it would feed too dark with navy blue but I may need to revisit that idea.

Still struggling to find a color for cabinets and wall. Navy blue swatches were just too dark next. to the countertop and for the small space.

you don't want white, and the darker colors, you say, will make it too dark, so that leaves you with light gray or one of those tones.

what in the world are those cab made from? and who picked that granite to go w/those cabs?

you say you're renting. they're letting you paint those? if they're made of a laminate type of material, the prep work for those will be necessary. quite frankly, I don't think it will look great painted. Do you really want to go through all of the work to paint those? have you ever painted cabinets? It's not something you can do in a weekend. Besides, that wood strip on the cabinets is kind of cool looking.

changing out the country style cup pull to more of a bar pull will look better w/that style cabinet

I'd leave the cabs and look into gettin a pre-fab, plain white or soft gray, quartz countertop. a 9' piece will cost about $450. fabricator can cut it to fit for another 600-900. maybe less depending on the layout of your kitchen.
