Thank you for all the responses. Here's a little more information. The measurements are correct, although they are for the MAXIMUM amount of granite we would need for our master bathroom. The vanity itself is 23-1/2 inches deep by 72" long. We would be willing to accept a remnant that size, also. In fact, originally we started looking for that size, as we planned to put up tile on the walls on all three sides of the vanity. We later decided it might be better to go ahead and use some of the granite for a backsplash on three sides. However, we want the granite to go up 7 inches so that it would meet the bottom of the large mirror on the back wall. I think the space will look more cohesive and less cut-up that way. Thus, the larger measurement of 86 inches by 30 inches. We would be willing to accept either size and work with that, but, frankly, it's been hard to find a remnant so far that is long enough (even at the 72 inch length). The ones we have found so far just won't work with the wall color in our master bath/bedroom. Another issue is the difference in cost from one fabricator to the next. One fabricator that has a good selection of remnants (although nothing we really liked when we first looked) charges TWICE as much as two other fabricators we've discussed this with. Another fabricator charges about one-and-a-half times as much as the other two. So we have to be careful where we go to get a remnant, given the huge disparity in price for fabricating the same granite. A basic mistake we made was picking out a khaki color for the walls and painting before we started looking at granite. If we had been more knowledgeable about buying granite, we would have found a granite that we liked and THEN chosen an apppropriate paint color. But now the painting is done (very large master bedroom, bath, and walk-in closet), and I LOVE the color. I love that it is so neutral and I can change the look just by changing a few accessories, linens, etc. We thought we were being smart by starting with our master bathroom so we could try out granite and see how we like it before considering it (or quartz) for our kitchen. Instead, it's proving to be harder than the kitchen would have been. We do have one other bathroom with two 48-inch vanities (same 23-1/2 inche depth), and I anticipate it will be difficult to find remnants that will work for that bathroom also. As a last resort, I suppose we could order all the same granite for both that bathroom and our master bath, but I really wanted to do something different in the other bathroom. Plus, we really didn't want to do it all at once. We wanted to do one thing at a time, as we had the time and the money to do so. Anyway, the message I'm getting from all of you is to keep looking. I never dreamed that our modest project would be so time-consuming and complicated. We returned to the fabricator we liked the best so far and found they had a few new remnants in stock, but nothing that would work for us. Maybe if we keep checking in we will eventually find something that will work there. Or maybe we'll just go buy some laminate and slap that on (and return the two undermount sinks we already bought).

Probably right about that it will pull out a grey undertone. You could go warmer and further off white like-- Bavarian Cream or even Mayonnaise.

Thanks, everyone, for your input. We spent the last few days with these same friends. We poured over the magazines (Domino Magazine has quite a few black/gray painted rooms featured and they look beautiful!) She's still not sure. I made the suggestion if she was hesitant about doing the bedroom black, do her master bath black. It has skylights and windows, so it wouldn't be a "black hole." Black really can look glamorous, if done right.....I love people who think "outside the box." Our home is predominantly SW's Blonde. I love it, but not exactly the most unique color in the world. I can't wait to see what she comes up with.

Others may have a specific paint color to offer, but if you are looking for inspiration you might try this link (below). It is to an interactive online color wheel, and really brings color theory to life. It may give you some color ideas you hadn't considered. (start by setting the main color to one similar to your chocolate - you can darken the colors with the slider below the wheel). Yes it's hard to get accurate colors on a monitor, but if you get close you can print it off and take it to your paint store and look for close matches (or even give them the "RGB" numbers that display with the color and have them mix a sample for you).
