Comments (18)Thanks everyone for giving me your ideas. I don't know what kind of clay I have. I only know it's gray, compacted and when we are really dry it literally turns into a cement like material. We bought a shed recently and needed to install those trailer ties to anchor it down. We were trying to dig the holes during a drought. My husband managed to get down about 3 or 4 inches with the post hole digger (remember he was digging these holes right up next to the building so there was no "getting his muscles into it") After getting that far he got a large screw driver and a hammer and tried chiseling with little success. Finally I got the bright idea to put water in the holes. That helped out a lot. Yes Karen, I will probably purchase a wildflower mix suited for my area from a reputable source. Since I am the one doing the bulk of the work on this one, I think I will give the leaves a shot. Hauling sand is just more work than this old bod can handle especially since I have 10 cubic yards of mulch to move. Ugh. Thanks again for all the wonderful suggestions....See MoreHow Would You "Pretty Up" this House Front?
Comments (20)The windows need help - wider trim as Yayagal suggests and muntins bars attached to all the windows. I think the second floor windows are too close together to add shutters without making them appear even closer together. I would add a pretty, not too tall tree on the left to fill in the empty space around that tiny window. Or maybe put an arbor on that side of the house at the same height as the porch roof. Maybe someone her can mock up some of these suggestions for you....See MoreHow would you decorate this entry?
Comments (316)I've lived with the rug for a few days now and I think I'm keeping it :) Considering this one to go in front of the bench: [https://www.houzz.com/products/traditional-area-rugs-prbr1-br~t_13149~s_2107[(https://www.houzz.com/products/traditional-area-rugs-prbr1-br~t_13149~s_2107) It's the same brand and has the same colors in the description (rust and ivory) so I'm hoping it works. Never bought from Houzz before, though....See MoreWhat would you do? Privacy that still looks good for front entry?
Comments (15)If it were me, and budget allowed it, I'd replace the door and the sidelights with a solid door for safety reasons, and you can match the period of the house. If that's not your concern, then how about just a roll-up shade mounted on the door to cover the glass, and then uncover it when you want the light. Or match the nice sheers you have. I would NOT want anyone to see in through my front door, but maybe that's me, and certainly would depend on the neighborhood you live in....See MoreDig Doug's Designs
