Stupid Missouri weather - broccoli bolting
Comments (11)put a thick thick layer of mulch around the broccoli plants, warm air temps do not cause bolting, but warm soil temps do. Right now I am keeping my broccoli soil temps around 65 degrees, with air temps in the upper 80's. By comparison my bare dirt's soil temps are close to the air temps during the heat of the day. Try it, it really works!!!! Hay works best, but you can use anything that will keep the sunlight from heating the soil, while letting rain and water percolate through Here is a link that might be useful: Broccoli bolting stopped!...See MoreWire compost bins question
Comments (2)Hey Kenstar, It is funny about covers for composts... I have put them on to keep out excess rain (don't want it too wet) .. but also to keep moisture in too ;-) Evaporation can dry out your pile too, besides what is cooking from inside ;-)...See MoreQuotes 10 - 1 - 17

Comments (10)I also like the black, three grid. I like the contrast from the black, and it looks nice with your roof color. Would also look nice with black light fixtures, door hardware, house numbers, etc. Not sure it's an option, but cream/off white would also look nice IMO....See More- 8 years ago
