You can't go wrong with Miele. Their condenser dryers work just as well and as fast as their vented models. You might also want to look at the Bosch Axxis line of laundry appliances. My MIL has had an Axxis laundry pair with a condenser dryer for about 3-1/2 years. She's been very pleased. A couple of things you might want to consider before going with a combo machine. Typically, you can only dry loads that are half the size of a maximum wash load. That means if the machine can accommodate a 12 lb. wash load, you'll only be able to dry 6 lbs (dry laundry) at one time. You'll either have to remove half the wet wash load before starting the dry cycle, or you'll be limited to half-size wash loads if you want the machine to automatically switch to the drying cycle after the wash cycle. Be sure to ask about this when buying and consult the owner's manual. Salesmen are notorious for forgetting to mention this little detail. Also, the combo machines generally aren't as fast at drying a load as a stand-alone condenser dryer. Some can take up to twice as long. And finally, if you typically wash multiple loads in succession, doing laundry with a combo machine will take you much longer. You won't be able to move a load of washed laundry from the washer to the dryer, then start a new load of wash while the first load is drying. You'll have to wait for the first load to wash AND dry before you can start a second load. Hope this helps.

LG's WM3987 is the only full-size (27"w) combo W/D sold in the U.S.; fortunately it's a good one, (4.2 cu.ft. capacity, 1200 RPM spin, heats water up to 158F, has separate prewash/main wash/fabric softener/bleach dispensers). Several manufacturers sell shallower 24"w washer/dryers, but LG's WM3455 is probably the best, although it's rather pricey. It has 2.7 cu.ft. capacity, 1300 rpm spin, heats water to 158F, though lacks a separate bleach compartment. Looks to have a big door opening for a compact washer, though I haven't seen one IRL. Both of these run on 120V/15A, which means slow water heating and even slower drying, but also that it will plug into your apartment's nearby outlet if it isn't wired for 240V and may be advantageous if you're not allowed to add a 240V circuit. Fagor's FAS 3612 is a considerably less expensive choice, and faster because it runs on 240v power. Asko seems to have dropped their combo W/D, and the Eurotech clone thereof isn't sold anymore either. These had a poor rep for reliability anyway; they were made by a different branch of the company than other Asko laundry machines. Avoid anything that doesn't heat the wash water.

I couldn't quite determine if you are willing to go with a top load washing machine or are set on a front loader from your opening post. If you wanted to go top load washer, yes, the opinions of the 2018 Speed Queens are not rosy. However, the reviews of the commercial top loading Maytag are quite positive. Someone more studious on this topic than me hopefully will come along and provide a link to video and comments about this commercial Maytag machine for you. You might be interested in it. Conversely, I would suspect that coming from european FL washers, you might find a top load washer to be not quite up to snuff or speed regarding spin speeds. I would definitely not want to use a ventless or condenser dryer with a top loading washing though. It would take weeks to get a load dry, due to the lower spin speeds a TL can offer. For me, a vented traditional dryer would be a must in that scenario. Speed Queen, from what I understand is still manufacturing a front load model for residential use, but it's the unitized washer/dryer stacked model. If you didn't mind having the units attached such as this, it might be of interest to you. We have one or a couple members here with the unitized SQ FL seem to be pleased with them, minus a minor glitch or two. Most machines have their "glitch" issue. Not wishing for too much 'tech' on your machines, maybe looking into the unitized SQ FL would be worth your while. They are pricey, but you have the Miele budget already in hand, and these are not as costly as Miele. Close, but not that high. Good luck, and welcome back to the states.

Yes, I agree with getting a pair (whether you stack them or put them under a counter) -- I'm intrigued by the all-in-ones (and the LG gets pretty good reviews), but I do think that's a last choice if you really have very little room. I almost bought a pair with a ventless dryer last week, and I learned a couple of things to consider and check: Find out if you have the option to use a hose to empty the dryer condenser into the water waste line, and - if not - how to empty the condenser reservoir. Some are located in easier places than others. Check the required electrical outlets: The dryer will need a 220V connection but some washers are 220V and some are 120V -- but some machines allow you to plug the washer into the dryer, which means you'd only need one outlet plug (220V). And find out if you need to separately purchase a stacking kit, or if it's included in the cost. I do have the option to vent in my apartment, so I ended up going with a compact size that has a vented dryer, so I can't comment on any specific brands or models; when I was considering ventless, I was looking at Bosch, LG, or Blomberg. (I would have considered Miele, but it's way out of my price range.)
