under 3 weeks till Memphis Area Plant Swap 1.5
Comments (23)None of my berry bushes or fig trees have gone dormant yet, So I'll have no cuttings, but I do have some well rooted 1 year fig plants that need to get into the ground sometime between going dormant and bud burst in spring. If they can be over wintered in a unheated garage or attic that would be best. unfortunately the tags were lost long ago, so I can't tell you the exact variety, but if I have them they are good tasting and suited to our growing season. I can easily mail dormant cutting later in the winter or you can get them rooted in the spring. I do have some viable seeds from some wonderful melon I got from the Amish in Three Oak's/Ethridge, TN it's not quite a honeydew and not quite a cantaloupe, but it's _way_ yummie! I'm interested in anything that is edible or fermentable. Esp. looking for any fruit/veggie seeds, of course. BREAK Judy, is that crabapple a fruiting variety? And is it self fertile? Jackie, might be intersted in a Sweet Potato vine My darling spousal unit, Karen is interested in anything "pretty" and low maintenance for the flower beds in front of the house. BREAK If anybody want to bring anything, I'll be happy to toss it on the griddle. from fruits/berries(preferably home grown) to put in the pancakes, to eggs, bacon, sausage, potato, etc etc. you bring it I can cook it! and we could always use something to drink since it's kid of early in the day to drink my "juice"....See MoreThe countdown begins. Comments (23)I really hope they resolve the whole Desmond thing. I miss him too. And Daniel Faraday. I assume he is really dead, but who knows? I'd like to see him in sideways. Perhaps Desmond is on the boat with Widmore. Ilana is quite interesting. At first, I was indifferent to her but now it seems she knows all about the island AND Jacob wore black gloves when he visited her in the hospital. Was she the marshals (don't remember his name off hand) proxy on the return flight? Why is she so important? I am still not sure about Jack yet! He has waffled constantly throughout the series even in light of strange, unexplainable things yet has been consistently dense. I hope he finally gets it now but I doubt it. Unless the writing is so off that in one event (the lighthouse mirror) his whole perspective has changed. I would have preferred a more subtle (ie realistic) change. And I love Hurley in sideways! Finally rich and Happy!...See MoreScrewed Up And Ordered The Wrong Soil For My Potted Roses-Any Advice?
Comments (8)gardengal48 and Perma n’ Posies , Thank you so much! I feel so much better now! I'm glad you told me about the vermiculite because I am not an expert gardener in any shape or form. When I bought it, I heard vermiculite was good for airing out and lightening up the soil and for helping the soil hold onto the added nutrients and soil amendments. I figured it would help potted plants so that the added plant food and nutrients don't drain out of the pots and can stay in the pot longer so the plants can uptake those things more readily when needed. I read so many different things on the internet about different kinds of soil amendments that it confuses the heck out of me sometimes, lol. I have bone meal, blood meal, earthworm castings, Down to Earth Organic Rose & Flower Fertilizer Mix 4-8-4, 5 , garden lime and something called Tank's Green Stuff 100% Organic SuperMix Fertilizer which is very expensive and gets rave reviews from gardeners. I really like the ingredients in Tanks Green Stuff! Tank's 100% organic compost has: Heat Treated Chicken Manure, Bat Guano, Calcium, Zeolite, Gypsum, Biochar, Soy Meal, Feather Meal, Blood Meal, Kelp Meal, Trace Minerals, Seaweed Extract, Humic Acid, Worm Castings. ( N: 2 P: 2 K: 1 ) If the soil mix is heavy and not light and fluffy, I'll add some peat moss and perlite in to lighten it up a bit. Besides the peat moss and perlite, Is it ok to mix a little of the stuff I mentioned above in the soil too? If yes, how many cups or teaspoons should I mix into the soil and add to each 15 gallon pot? I want the soil in the pots to be light and fluffy and filled with lots of good stuff for the roses. I found the ingredients that the soil has: aged fir bark, fir bark, sawdust, composted green waste, peat moss, redwood sawdust, alfalfa meal, fishbone meal, bone meal, feather meal, kelp meal, kelp flour, dolomite lime, gypsum and wetting agent. My guess is that there isn't a huge percentage of those ingredients in the soil. It's probably mostly sticks/wood. Thankfully, I also found a write up where the company said this particular planting mix is also "designed for Indoor and outdoor containers". After I read that I felt relieved. Thanks so much again for your help and advice. I appreciate you both so much!...See MoreAugust 2020, Week 5-September 2020, Week 1
Comments (63)Yay for the violets, Nancy! And...you still have summer squash? The bugs killed ours long ago. Even the C. Moschata. I am pooped. So tired. We shopped today and I don't have to tell anyone that shopping is very unpleasant right now. However, Dillards allows you to try on clothes and I found a dress. It's not exactly the bohemian/fairy princess dress that I wanted. But it fits nicely and its a forest green color...and it's Robin Hoodish (not really), so I bought it. Paid more than what I wanted to pay, but it's done. DONE! Came home around 3 and sliced, breaded and froze okra. Then figured out how to use my pressure canner as a water bath canner and pickled some okra. On my own. The lids sealed so hopefully we're good. My house is getting to the point that I am very unhappy. I know a clean house isn't the most important thing in the world....but I enjoy a clean home. It just feels nice to me. However, a clean house isn't anywhere in my near future. I am hoping the robot vacuums are cheap this Christmas. That will at least help. We are celebrating Mason's BD tomorrow and that will be fun. It's at a very good restaurant that I haven't been to in a long time. Then grocery shopping and then maybe starting more lettuce seed. In between all of those things is animal care. Lots of animal care. There's always one of them doing something they shouldn't be doing or somewhere they shouldn't be hanging out. One of the fat buff orpingtons has figured out how to get out of the chicken yard. And she isn't swift. She is dumb--beautiful but dumb and wanders over by the dogs. So, I'm constantly leaving whatever task I'm working on to catch her or entice her back to the yard. And everyone is always hungry all the time. The 3 young pullets mingled with the main flock today. It went very well. Having a good rooster helps with that. They're roosting in their own coop, though. It will be a gradual thing as always. Momma Blossom will be tired of her chicks soon and those two chicks will need to move to the pullet coop at that time. Although, at least one of those chicks is a cockerel. Tom may or may not start doing meat birds and these two could be the start of it. They won't be THE meat birds, but they might be the parents of. I've named the one I think is a girl. Her name is Gwendolyn, which is sorta funny because Gwendolyn (actually related to Jennifer/Guinevere.) means white ...and Gwendolyn is a dark cornish. I'm simply rambling now....See MoreSoFL Rose z10
