Fragrant Azalea/Rhododendron for Z9/Sunset 14, Sacramento

Ellen W.

Here in Sacramento we have a lot (a LOT) of very happy azaleas and some carefully situated happy rhododendrons. I have a spot under a crepe myrtle and against a north-facing fence in a small back yard that I'm pretty sure would be good for a rhododendron and I know would be good for an azalea. What I would really, really love is to have something fragrant - I like to sit on my tiny patio in the afternoon in the summer and I've read that some rhododendrons actually perfume the air. Does anyone have any experience growing fragrant rhododendrons or azaleas in my kind of climate? Thank you!
