I had one until my false beam began to fall last night. Of course, my hubby was out of town. My good neighbor came over to prop up the beam, from which my chandelier was hung. Around noon today, I placed a ladder under the light fixture for support because the beam was still inching its way down. I had noticed that the beam was making "popping" sounds throughout the day. Just a few minutes ago, my neighbor returned to help my husband remove the beam. Now all I have is a red chalk line running across the pitch of the ceiling and a tangle of wires where my chandelier was.

Do you have a window in the upper portion of your foyer? I have a two storey foyer and we simply centered the chandelier on the window. As far as height over a dining table, I'd think that regardless of the height of the ceiling, the regular "rules" would apply. I've seen a bunch of different sources for chandelier size and height. Don’t over-analyze it! You can easily fit something 50-60” wide. Our squarish room is about 300sf (with lower ceiling). We just replaced our white fan with a big 42” black chandelier too. I miss the fan on warmish days, but not enough to regret this. I think you could definitely go with something that has more vertical mass, but there aren’t any rules. I’d start with the finish you want, unless you’re not sure. You’ll also get lots of suggestions here too 😉 (one photo shows it before we took it back down to scrape & retexture ceiling)
