I love your hutch!

I like your table too but can't see it properly

you can leave the hutch as is(I would) or change its color..you can change the table's top, that'd be cool..knowing myself, I'd go for changing chairs' upholstery..)) so many ways to tweak this room, a bit more or just ever so slightly, precisely because it's beautiful.

Of course, it makes more sense to change the upholstery on the chairs than the table, like I suggested!

Cpaul took the words out of my mouth. After studying the hutch I was going to say the same thing. Paint in an expresso to match the chair upholstery and switch out the hardware.

The stain you did is nice, I wouldn't take it any darker. Not with dark walls. That is one beautiful piece of furniture!

Rbumbry - Looks good darkened. I honestly wouldn't change out the hardware. I think that's the hardware that looks correct on those pieces. I like the hutch. I'd consider altering the table first.

Tnfarmhouse - Didn't your name used to be Juddgirl or Judygal? Something like that? I swear I remember that hutch and foyer from back in the GW days.

The hutch really suits your aesthetic, based on the cute little stool and the rug. Beautiful.

For your chairs I can see something with a bit of sheen, like raw silk or velvet. But to be honest I'd be keeping my eyes open for classic colonial or fiddle back dining chairs for this room.

Please don't change the hardware. You'll have to refinish because the finish under the handles will be worn; you'll be able to see the outlines.

I have a similar hutch made of pine. I just upgraded so am planning a redo too. I hope to remove the doors and hinges then paint it and use it in the guest room for books and linens. I would never paint over quality wood. If you lose the top piece then you lose tons of storage, I hope you don't. A credenza is not a hutch!!!

I love those chairs in there...in that color. I also love that the table is more contemporary....it's unexpected and clean.

Beautiful piece with great updated stain. Please DO change the hardware which is too dated and too blah to add oomph to your lovely room. It will take some work to stain where the old hardware was, but that is worth the update. The old hardware cheapens the piece.

Colors in pictures are difficult to see. The pictures look great--how do you like in real life? You mentioned doing something to the table? The sideboard and chandy are black. The table is a dark stain, chairs are cranberry and play well with the rug and curtains and then we are back to your inherited hutch which is the lightest. I think it is a statement to have one piece that is obviously inherited-passed down. I would leave it in its natural state to celebrate the gift. Possibly the frame on the mirror should pair with the chair or table color?

I love beautiful stained wood and while I think tnfarmhousefixin did such a beautiful job painting their hutch, I would have been sad if you'd painted yours. Thank you for sharing.

I spy a little green bunny on your console table....I would love to see some more things like that as a table centerpiece...I think that earthy green looks stunning with cranberry...

I have a very similar piece, made of hard rock maple. The hardware on mine is in excellent condition, much like yours, and I would never consider replacing it. You wouldn’t find anything current that would look appropriate, or be as well made, IMHO. I don’t feel it’s “dated” - it’s authentic for the piece.
