Wolf 48' DF486C ??
Comments (3)There are many form vs. function vs. economic issues to consider when answering your post. First off, the Wolf DF range is a great machine, you can't go wrong with it. (I have a 30" DF range.) One question you don't pose, but should consider, is how many cooks you have in your kitchen at any given time. I'm the only cook and baker in my family of four (everyone else just sits at the table and waits expectantly to be fed). So my set up is perfect for me. But many of my friends have partners and children who like to be super involved in cooking. In those cases, having a larger cooktop and separate wall ovens is a great choice -- it provides room for at least two cooks to be working at the cooktop at the same time and another cook to come and go from the oven without disturbing the cooks at the rangetop. If we are talking fantasy kitchen in which money is no object, and I had several cooks in the family and lots of room, I'd be tempted to install a 48" range top (with all the bells and whistles including a griddle or grill) and separate 30" double wall ovens. Other posts on GW have convinced me that two 30" ovens is often a better choice than the 36"/18" oven combo. The argument I've heard: 36" is really bigger than one needs and 18" is smaller than one needs in most cases. I do agree that a 30" oven is perfect. Having two of them would be a dream. Although I've put in the plug for separate wall ovens and rangetop in terms of maximizing efficiency, it is true that I chose a free-standing range instead. To me, the freestanding range just looks more "homey". And I do like having my high powered hood over my oven -- I sometimes make a lot of smoke baking and broiling in the oven....See MoreBlueStar Platinum vs. Wolf
Comments (2)I've haven't used either range, so I can't offer personal experiences, but I can tell you that you won't have to worry about chipping enamel on the Wolf AG. The only Wolf enamel that has chipping issues is the blue stuff they use in the dual fuel ranges and wall ovens. I believe the AG just has a standard black interior....See MoreFinal decision DF or AG for 48" Wolf???
Comments (3)Sadly it is not the computer board that goes bad on a Wolf DF but the very structure of the oven. I have one. I would read up on the blue porcelain chipping on the DFs, and really all of their ovens with blue enamel. There are several lawsuits pending on this issue with a 10 year history. The biggest regret of my kitchen. The gas oven does not have this issue but if you are buying to actually cook, I would look at a BlueStar RNB. This is a a very different type of range though. It has an open burner tray and star shaped burners that allow the flame to go straight up. The burner has the potential for high heat. The ranges come in colors and you can customize the metals and knobs. I think it is the only one you can order with 8 burners. https://www.bluestarcooking.com/cooking/ranges/48-rnb-series-range/ There are other options for a DF range but I would consider a rangetop and wall ovens so that you could pick out an burners and oven separately, each on its own merit and add a combi oven for the smaller oven. For me this set up would trump any version of a 48" range out there. Dacor would not be on my list at all. If looks are the most important, and it is perfectly ok if it is, as it is your kitchen, you have a little less functionality but a real showpiece in a French range like LaCanche or LaCornue. https://www.frenchranges.com/lacanche-ranges/color-trim/...See MoreBest warranty? Comments (22)Ccwatters, I’m glad you are not offended. I thought when you said “picking my comments apart and arguing each ” and characterized others posts as “speculative” that you were. Even your last comment about “criticism” has that connotation. Good to know you aren’t. Yes, you did thank both of us and others, but when I said “ask follow up questions” I meant asking specific questions of the people who posted, especially the new owner. I do understand asking for newer reviews. Sometimes people comment about a brand they have had for 15 years when there have been several model changes so the comment is no longer valid. The Wolf M is in the sweet spot of a fair amount of threads and no real changes. Wolf is in kind of a conundrum. They can’t really admit to the chipping problem, yet they made the bottom replaceable. If you have read all the threads about the chipping and uneven browning and were assured, then you made the best decision for you. If you don’t have that browning on the sides, that is wonderful. I always take people at their word as to what they say happens in their own kitchen and this is also why the posts about uneven browning concern me. I just post to bring awareness to the issues reported here that you will not hear about by anyone marketing a product, and people can make their own decision. I’m aware of how the message system works but I believe comments need to be public as they may benefit someone down the line reading this as a later point....See More- 6 years ago
