You will get a LOT of conflicting opinions on all of these appliances in general, so definitely do your own due diligence and make some phone calls to:

-speak to each brand's customer service reps re details of the warranties ...parts AND service (service expires the quickest)

-determine if you are required to service appliance with authorized techs only, have customer service locate authorized service companies in your area

-call the actual service techs and see if they have opinions on any common issues with the appliances you are considering

-ask techs if they have an opinion of which appliances they would choose

I can tell you what I know from my own research on my recent double oven purchase (I was torn between Wolf and Miele) :

Wolf has a 2 year parts/service warranty, which they will automatically increase to 3 years if you use an authorized/certified installer (plus at the moment they have $100 cash-back rebate for using the authorized installer, which makes installation a deal!). After the parts/labor warranty is over, you have parts warranty until year 5. (any extended warranty has to be purchased from an independent party)

Miele has 1 year parts/service you can extend to 2 (you can buy an extended warranty directly from them)

As far as dishwasher, I believe Bosch is 1 year. (extended warranty can be purchased independently)

I think Bluestar might be a full 10 on parts, but service coverage ends after 1. (But I don't own Bluestar and didn't have it in the final running for ovens, so I didn't do a ton of research so guessing somewhat..have no idea about extended warranty for service, would assume you could purchase))

I can tell you I love the Wolf [M series] double oven I just had installed last week. I selected Wolf over Miele because of service techs reporting that Miele parts were often hard to get and took time....plus I love my Wolf cooktop's reliability for the last 15 years. The double oven has completely delivered with its huge capacity, perfectly even cooking, solid doors, smooth racks and is surprisingly quiet.

Baking in my Wolf M series has only given me even browning thus far. I know there is a lot of speculation from people hearing about what other people hear, say, post, etc, but from personal experience I can report that so far it is performing perfectly, and more quietly than any other current convection oven I've used, and that was a huge bonus. I absolutely love it!

I also can't speculate what any appliance is like OUT of warranty....but I'd guess it's similar for all brands. This is why I buy extended warranties ....even if I never have to end up using them. For my Wolf cooktop of 15 years, I never had to tap into the warranty, but I will say that when I called Wolf just last month - prior to buying the new ovens/doing my research - the first thing I was greeted with after hello was them greeting me by name and asking me how my cooktop was (my 15 year old cooktop that I never called them about!?)

Additionally, while performing the burnoff on the oven that first day, I noticed a discoloration on one of the standard cooking racks and also noticed a sharp edge on the rack of the broiling pan that came with the oven. I called to have them note it for me in the event the rack discoloration turned into something more with use, and in the event something disconnected at the sharp edge of rack. The customer service rep offered a new rack immediatel (I declined as I thought it was wasteful just for discoloration), but she insisted sending out a whole new broiler pan to me, which arrived just 12 hours later. So thus far, I'm quite impressed with their customer service.

I can also say that the installation guys who were at my house that day carried on about how amazing Wolf customer service is and that it's like no other brand they install.

I've said it before, there's no crystal ball for any appliance of any brand, but my firsthand experience with the Wolf M Series ovens has far exceeded my expectations. Now I plan to treat the oven like I did my last ones that lasted 15 years (1. Not using the self clean mode, and 2. No foil on the bottom of oven ever)... and then I'll just hope for the best.

And as wekick has pointed out in may posts, Wolf has now made the bottom panel removable/interchangeable should the nightmare-bue-chipping occur. If it happens under warranty, they will provide and replace it...if it happens out of warranty, I will. I have never expected a company to pay for something out of warranty...that's the point of why they have a warranty and all brands are like that as far as my experience has ever been.

To the OP's original question - I think a solid warranty for any company (3-5 years parts and labor) is a good indication of what kind of appliance you could expect to get.....and a key part of the research in deciding which is best for you.

Maybe I have this wrong, but I think there is more speculation involved with a short term( a couple of weeks) use of an appliance on a problem that can occur immediately or up to five years later, vs the many posters here that have posted over the years. You can go back and read first hand many posts on Wolf blue chipping. You can google it.

I will leave it to the individual reader to decide which is speculation. .

I have been active on this forum for about 12 years. I base what I say not on “speculation“ but on pictures and experiences that people post here and in reading Wolf’s own materials. It is amazing what is on their website and in their use and care manual. I got interested in appliances after a very disastrous experience with a Dacor oven. I started researching ovens and how they work and kitchen science in general. I used to work in a food lab so have an interest In this sort of thing. There are many new books and websites that have exponentially increased the knowledge in this area. I thought, I’ll go with Wolf. Their service is renowned. The dealer assured me they would always stand behind their products. No need for an extended warranty. Does Wolf themselves even sell one? There were a few reports of blue chipping even back then but I thought, this can’t be a big problem. There are bound to be a few. I was a happy Wolf owner for 4.5 years. You can go back and read my posts.

After about the third or 4th self clean, the enamel shed from the bottom of the oven. Wall ovens from what people post here tend to fail earlier and under warranty, ranges mostly later. It isn’t always related to self clean but if you have and advertise the feature why isn’t it usable? I thought, no problem. It’s a Wolf. Yes, Wolf representatives are unfailing polite and very prompt in returning your emails even out of warranty. They do try to tell you the blue chipping is normal. When you send pictures, they admit as they do on their website, that the liner will have to be changed. They are very cheerful and friendly when they do this. This is of course a very expensive repair. It is a profit center for them out of warranty. It may surprise you to learn the liner part is not covered under the 5 year parts. Under warranty they have talked some people into spending additional money to upgrade to the next level of expense, only to have that fail. They are not consistent in how they deal with people. A few have gotten the upgrade free while most others paid hundreds of dollars. Be ready to haggle. I went back and forth and they would offer a little more and a little more but ultimately even if I paid to replace, they have so little confidence in their own part, it is only guaranteed for a year. Even though this has been so much of an issue that they designed the M to make it easier to repair, they will not own the problem and stand by their appliances. They still sell the L, E and DF range with one piece liners. This is the structure of the oven. This falls short of their ad on their website promising 20 years of service. If they owned it, they would have raving fans. If it is so few in number, why wouldn’t they?

You have had it a couple of weeks. We have many here with experiences that occurred over at least 10 years that are different than yourS. Better than a crystal ball.

As I mentioned above service is excellent during the warranty. They will bring in oven after oven after oven as long as it is in warranty according to the people here on this forum. It is much easier for them to replace the bottom only on the M but why wouldn‘t you just fix the problem? An appliance of this caliber should never have this type of ongoing structural issues. Are you saying you would be content to replace the liner or bottom every year? Most people posting have had more than one failure. The liner fix starts at $800 with the total unknown and I have read that some have paid $2500. The bottom replacement is likely to be at least $300. There is a minimum labor charge of $200/hr years ago.

I expected more out of appliance like this.

This is Wolf’s own diagram of the M’s airflow. If you read about convection and the Maillard reaction, you will immediately see why this is a problem. You will see why there is over browning on the sides.

People need this information so they can make an informed choice. They might still choose Wolf, as you did, but at least they will be able to know what the potential issues are and decide if they will bother them. Paying to replace an oven liner every year would bother me because I just want to have my oven bake when I need it and use my money for fun things. I don’t like the idea of glass shards flying around with a convection fan. I don‘t have time to sit home and wait for repairs. Mine sits with the enamel substrate exposed. I don’t run the self clean and only use it rarely with food that is covered and no convection. Luckily I have a wall oven too.

I do think what happens after the warranty is important. I do think the manufacturer should make an appliance that lasts a little longer than 4 1/2 years or quit advertising that it will last 20 years.

To the OP, I will say again You will get a LOT of conflicting opinions on all of these appliances, so make those phone calls. Ask about blue chipping, and shattered glass, blown control panels, etc in ALL brands you investigate. My common question to anyone I could ask was "what is a common repair on this oven".....the input from different sources was very revealing

To Wekick, that stinks that your experience with Wolf was so different and frustrating than the one I had over the last 15 years. I'm honestly sorry if anything I said further frustrated you. My intention was to try to explain with honesty to the OP that I recently purchased and have just recently begun to use one of the actual M series ovens he/she was considering. I was trying to be helpful reporting on actual current experience because I TRIED to find that kind of info myself back when I was deciding, but no one could offer any real life recent/current feedback. Bottom line:

I bought a 36" Wolf Cooktop 15 years ago that I loved using the very first week I got it and feel the same about it 15 years later.

I now have the M Series 30" double-oven that I have loved using since the first week I had it and am hoping I feel the same way in 15 years....time and proper use will tell

I researched and found liked the oven's features, I like the customer service, I like the warranty, I like the repair service availability, I trust the appliance store I bought it from, I like that I can extend the warranty with my appliance store, I like all the confidence I had spoken at me about Wolf from friends, acquaintances, strangers, appliance reps, service techs, and some online chats....all my research pointed to this being the right fit for me and I will now just hope and pray for the best..

Back to the subject of warranties........I have to say that I personally expect nothing in the appliance world to be "guaranteed" as far as things going wrong, and certainly not costs being covered after warranty. A warranty is there for protecting both consumer and buyer, and there are reasons some companies only offer 1 year parts/labor vs 3 years parts/labor. I do happen to think the manufacturer-offered warranties speak volumes about the manufacturer's expectations/confidence in their products....but still there are no guarantees (as was proven to me a couple months ago in the first week I owned t a Dacor oven that completely failed). Years ago I was told that the washer/dryer would only last up to 8 years as that is the average "good" lifespan of appliances. My washer has needed replacing twice in the last 15 years but my dryer is still running (thought it needs to be replaced as it can get too hot) I was told again recently that 8 years is the average life-span for appliances, so I guess we will see since I just replaced my ovens and dishwasher .... I can say that the crummy LG fridge I bought 3 years ago for capacity just needed to be completely rebuilt and the labor cost me $800 (parts supposedly covered).

So again, there's no guarantees......

Thank you all for your comments! I looked up the warranty info for the brands I'm considering for double ovens. They all make me nervous! I do tend to lean toward a company that has a better warranty, and Wolf's warranty beats the others by far (see info copied from their web sites, below). I am disappointed in BlueStar's warranty. Bummer.

I was looking at the Thermador double ovens but they are too small.

That was exactly why Thermador wasn't in the running for my double oven options....plus the new models are so new I would rather not be one of the first to use it....plus their pricing is now too high for what they're offering

And in all of the comments I can't remember if I mentioned that I always buy the extended warranties offered by my appliance store. The extended warranty is based on how many years you buy and how much the oven cost....for example the extended warranty for my Bosch (that came with i year warranty) is $190 for extended 4 years parts and labor. The Wolf on the other hand I only need to buy two years for and that would cost $180 - the appliance guy said he personally wouldn't bother with the Wolf but $180 is worth the peace of mind for 2 more years in my opinion.

Sometimes I quote someone else’s posts exactly so my answer can be direct and it can be clearly understood what I am referring to. Some people have gone back and edited their posts, so it is a good idea sometimes to have the exact quote that you are answering In your post.

When you use language like “speculation” in referring to other people’s posts, it should not be surprising that they will present evidence otherwise. Very few answers to posts are monologues. The best ones are the ones with a lot of participants that raise a lot of questions. No, this is not frustrating to me but I am used to the direct back and forth debate here. I remember your post(s) and people did answer including me, but you did not ask any follow up questions of the one new user who posted or me. You answered with some of Wolfs marketing materials and were content with answers from the dealers. I do think it is important to ask questions but the real feed back you were looking for is here and in depth. The Wolf series M is only a few years old. Aside from the noisy fans, it hasn’t changed. Every post on this forum is relevant. The fact that there are so many posts about any appliance is valuable because it shows a pattern. These posts can be found by putting “Wolf M“ in the appliance forum search bar for anyone who wants to see them.

We have people come here and say “I only want to hear from people who have had xyz appliance for less than a year.” Really??? Some posts that are 10 years old about something like the oven in Wolf’s DF range are still relevant because it hasn’t changed. Some posts that are less than a year old are no longer relevant because the model has changed significantly.

I hope you have a stellar experience with the M and look at it this way, you have gotten rid of the Dacor. I had to put up with my range and oven for 9 mos. It had the blue chipping too along with nearly nonfunctional ovens. The way the temperature is controlled or not controlled in that oven is unbelievable, it couldn’t bake a potato.

Sandk, the local appliance stores in my area outsource the extended warranty plans (and some of these companies have overwhelming bad reviews), or they recommend a local service place for repairs. My just over one year old LG washing machine broke - the drum literally broke - and I spent eight hours on the phone. The local appliance store made calls and tried to help, but their local service company refused to work on my washer because they said LG doesn't pay them and owed them thousands of dollars already. This washing machine was just out of the warranty period, but clearly LG needed to fix this issue - it shouldn't happen with a "new" washer! But LG's verbal promise to pay the local service company was not enough to convince them to take on the job. With persistence, I was able to finally get a hold of an LG executive who sent an LG repairman to replace the drum. But it was a giant hassle!

AboutToGetDusty, I had a similar frustrating experience with LG and my refrigerator, except it was 2 + years old and so I was out of my extended warranty of labor, so only parts were covered...but I had to pay $800 for labor to rebuild the entire motor...which required him taking the entire machine apart in my kitchen and then putting it back together. I think those that service LG also pad their service price for the hassle LG is to work with (one visit and parts take long, second visit could find additional things wrong once they get in....leading to waiting for parts again and another call). I bought the fridge for the huge capacity in a counter depth size, but it will be my last LG because there seems to be so many similar stories out there across all their appliances.. And the experience just adds to why I spend so much time looking at warranties and service when considering appliances.

By the way, which ovens and dishwasher did you end up getting?

I'm not offended by anyone...I said that there are a lot of conflicting opinions on here and so OP should do their due diligence in researching with phone calls as well (aka additional sources outside of Houzz). So I'm not sure what your comments directed at me are meant to mean.

I also never claimed nor exhibited that I was content with only dealers' answers, one response about a current oven, and your input about the Dacor and Wolf you dislike. That's why I posted 3 different times in search of input for peoples' favorite currently-available double ovens (see links below to posts on: 1/3, 1/11, 2/4) ... and I followed up/interacted with, and also thanked each person that responded, including you. So I'm not sure what your comment about me not following up is referring to, maybe you forgot those posts(?). Finally, I have read every old post about chipping, which actually only provided more assurance for me to give the M a try...I am well aware that old information is available but I wanted updated information and made that clear.

The clincher was the local repair shops that service both said Wolf is better (now that it's a part of SubZero), with the caveat that any brand can make a lemon. Also, my architect and the cabinet companies I am considering - all the pros think Wolf has an overall better track record. Now for my dishwashers...I had two nightmare experiences with Kitchenaid, so this time I am going to buy one Bosch 800 series and one Miele, and have them duel for the best reputation in my kitchen!

I have always had the Bosch and have been happy.....but people LOVE the Miele Dishwasher and you are one lucky person to have both :))

Your reasons for choosing the Wolf are identical to mine. Too many people with no dog in the race spoke with such confidence about going with Wolf that I decided to take my gamble there instead of the Miele oven I was also considering (plus service technicians hated how long Miele took to send parts).

Just an added piece of unsolicited info: Even though my appliance guy thinks I'm crazy to waste my money on an extended warranty with Wolf (because he truly thinks I won't need it)....I'm still getting an extended 2 years (labor only since parts are still covered by Wolf for the full 5). I figure the $180 it will cost me is worth the added peace of mind. Just two last cents I thought I'd share ...

I will try to find out via an email because I just priced it out last week/didn't get it yet (I have 9 most from the date of purchase)...but I think it's something that many appliance stores offer (a lot of them working with independent companies). Ask your appliance store as well. Honestly, when I redid my kitchen/laundry 15 years ago, I bought extended warranties on every appliance because I was told the average lifespan for appliances was 8 years. Way back then I think I paid an additional $500 total for all of them and that brought the warranty to 4 years (can do up to 5 now). I saved myself at least $500 in the GE fridge repairs and a few more visits here and there with my Thermador ovens plus once for my Bosch. I never used it for my Wolf...but I'm still going to pay the $180 for my Wolf (and $190 for my new Bosch dishwasher)

Ccwatters, I’m glad you are not offended. I thought when you said “picking my comments apart and arguing each ” and characterized others posts as “speculative” that you were. Even your last comment about “criticism” has that connotation. Good to know you aren’t.

Yes, you did thank both of us and others, but when I said “ask follow up questions” I meant asking specific questions of the people who posted, especially the new owner. I do understand asking for newer reviews. Sometimes people comment about a brand they have had for 15 years when there have been several model changes so the comment is no longer valid. The Wolf M is in the sweet spot of a fair amount of threads and no real changes.

Wolf is in kind of a conundrum. They can’t really admit to the chipping problem, yet they made the bottom replaceable. If you have read all the threads about the chipping and uneven browning and were assured, then you made the best decision for you. If you don’t have that browning on the sides, that is wonderful. I always take people at their word as to what they say happens in their own kitchen and this is also why the posts about uneven browning concern me. I just post to bring awareness to the issues reported here that you will not hear about by anyone marketing a product, and people can make their own decision.

I’m aware of how the message system works but I believe comments need to be public as they may benefit someone down the line reading this as a later point.

In light of the posts about uneven browning, I would have asked a little about what they baked, if they had the oven filled side to side and what modes they used. Someone who bakes a 9x13” in the middle of the oven on bake might have satisfactory results while someone who has the oven filled side to side on conv. like the Wolf video, might not. To me the devil is in the details, whether it be burners, ovens or whatever. Maybe you had your mind made up, but it was a newer user as you were looking for.

This whole back and forth just shows how differently people think and come to decisions. It’s all good.

I went with a BlueStar RNB and have had great customer service. I had a wire issue last Thanksgiving and BlueStar reached out to me twice to make sure I was taken care of and able to cook my holiday meal. I liked BlueStar because it is simple, no fancy electronics to fail. I was looking for a workhorse that would last a lifetime. No regrets here.

What happens to a Wolf M series oven if the chipping happens on the sides and not on the bottom where the liner can be replaced?

@wekick, which ovens did you ultimately purchase and are you happy with them?

Part of customer service depends on how many service people are in your area for that particular product. I had a Blue Star when I lived in Philly. They are made in PA and there were many service techs. But other parts of the country might have much fewer. I also loved my Blue Star range because they are known for being very low tech. I was able to fix it myself during covid lockdown and I'm not handy at all. A wall oven might be a different story.

I don't know about Bosch customer service because I never had to use it. We put one in our former house, lived there for 7 years and had not one single problem with it. We put one in our current house too.
