I'm so excited - I think this is going to work out!! When I found the fabric I asked to have it cut right away and as the lady was doing it I said that I usually have to take a bunch of swatches home..... Her comment was life is too short to make yourself crazy over fabric. I should stencil that on my walls! Or tattoo it on my forehead. Here's the chair I found on CL for $20. (BTW - could have bought 4 - kind of kicking myself but don't know what I'd do with them anyway) I want to paint it - hate to do more black but either that or white. Keith thinks I'm ruining a good chair by painting it - of course! So - black or white? If you remember, the sofabed on the other side of the room is white. And here is the fabric I bought - will use it for the cafe curtain, too. Will do an edge banding in plain black (bought that fabric, too!) for the woven valance and french door shades to pull the 2 parts of the room together. Still thinking Palace white for the walls but that could change.

I think the bedroom looks great--it's furnished, decorated, and de-cluttered. Windows just blend in the background. I think when you get the moving stuff put away and other rooms more furnished, the windows won't seem so weird. For the living room, do you need more seating? What do you plan for the wall color? The windows seem stark because the wall is so dark and empty, especially since the TV and stand blend right in. I'd start with think what you need furniture-wise for the function of the room. In the breakfast area, I'd clear the clutter off the window sill, de-clutter and maybe relocate the bookshelf, then hang some art around and below the window. Hallway, I think might be fine with nothing around the window. Or bookshelf or console table much wider than what's there. For the windows themselves, I'd probably either do a light roller or cellular shade. I'm in sunny California and have cellular shades, which are good for blocking harsh light in day, but also look nice at night so that the windows don't look like black holes. In PNW, you may not need the light filtering, so could consider a sheer option to let in more sun. I actually just put in a window like this in my bathroom, so that I get the light without the privacy concerns. Definitely see that it makes decorating more challenging in other spaces, but I think you'll be glad to have the light.

Thank you for the suggestions everyone. We just order light filtering honeycomb shades, bottom-up top-down for 19 windows. Housegal200, thank you for the picture and idea. Once we are moved in I may add curtains that stack entirely on the side. I'm starting a new conversation next above curtains for a double slider. :)

I wouldn't want to cover up that lovely new trim either. Would inside mount blinds interfere with the window mechanism? Looks like that might be an issue? I might just get a light gauze fabric, or sheer curtain, cut & hem it to fit, and hang with a pressure rod just at the top of the window. Add a bit of cording or ribbon at the top corners - use that to pull the curtain open and closed as needed. It won't block light a lot, but will diffuse it to reduce glare and heat from setting sun
