Comments (2)I have one of the original 220volt Miele's and have had / use the Gaggenau and Kuppersbusch systems too. They make a pretty good cup o Joe according to people that have had them out of my machines. ( I don't drink coffee) The true coffee/ espresso connoisseurs scoff at these superautomat type machines as not being very good, but I have my doubts especially considering there are very few of those around. It basically boils down to cost and lifestyle. It's cool factor is high and it has flexibility to offer several different products: coffee, tea, espresso , cappuccino, and the newer/fancier ones have the option for a second type of coffee - say decaf and a water hook up so you don't have to fill a container. So, it's a convenience product too. There are a few drawbacks, cost for sure - they start at around $1500 and go up, they have to be built into a cabinet and their size means only a few other things will fit the space if you change your mind. They also require a bit of maintenance to keep running properly and long term. It's more involved than throwing away the grounds/filter and rinsing out the Mr.Coffee pot. They can also take a bit of time/cups to get dialed in for your tastes as there are adjustments for amount of grounds, their size ect.......See MoreAux heat source to be stage1 heat and heat pump stage2.
Comments (3)Your friend's work around with the thermal switch sounds as if it was in lieu of a third stage on your thermostat. Honeywell makes a three stage thermostat (3 heat - 2 cool) The TH8110U that would do that for you. And there are others. A bit of an expense though, considering that what you have essentially accomplishes the same thing....See MoreFurnace help 1 stage vs 2 stage!
Comments (17)Austin can probably contribute the wattage he sees on motor labels for the equipment he sells. The advantage PSC motors have over ECM and Variable Speed is: long life. I've seen units upwards of 20 years old and older in which the original PSC motor still works. In most cases that PSC motor will probably last as long as 2 ECM motors. Maybe out live 3 ECM's in some cases. The ECM motors, CIRCA 2020 cost much more than a PSC motor. So because you replace the ECM more often, and it costs more --- it is not likely to pay for itself in the way of reduced energy usage in most cases. Worse case for variable speed I've seen is 3 years none other than Trane brand. Those motors -- you'll never recoup the cost via electric savings. Forget it. So because I know it's not going to pay for itself, I don't pay that much attention to wattage... kind of out of sight out of mind. One advantage ECM and Variable speed have over PSC is that they are quieter and do a better job in aiding the AC remove humidity. But with the recent Bosch Inverter AC, the jury is still out on that. Maybe in 5 or 10 years--- more motor manufacturers make the ECM and prices come down things might change. But cost wise currently it's not going to save you enough to recoup the cost of the motor itself, in my opinion. If you value a quiet furnace, then it would be worth it....See MoreMy House
