Comments (10)I wondeerded if you knew him gb... I mentioned that we had a friend in the area but didn't give you name. We didn't see the thyme path or the horses (no peacocks or roosters either :-) but we did meet Sasha (a rescued Golden Retriever). I would have liked to have met the horses but I didn't want to ask; since he was kind enough to take the time to welcome unexpected visitors, I didn't want to interrupt his day too much! We spent some time discussing Christmas ornaments with him - some of his antique ornaments were similar to what my grandparents had on their Christmas trees. I would have loved to see more of the property - definitely a place to take Idyll visitors! We will include Mapleton Organics in a future visit! Now that we have the address from the link you provided, we can program it into the GPS thingy... The GPS was a handy 'toy' to have. It did lead us astray a couple of times - but only because we had input the wrong town in the address (e.g. when we were trying to find that house, we thought it was in Fergus so the GPS kept trying to send us south instead of north! Comments (4)I did the same kinds of things. I keep wandering out the door and trimming dead things back that don't care about having protective covers of leaves. Trimming spent pansy blooms and violas left and right. Cut back the hedychiums that have finally frozen some. I have several newly planted bulbs which are very confused about their time of year. I have 3 snowdrops which came up and have put up buds-- but not opened. I'm hoping they can hold on for another month or so until it is time for them. They've stood still for 2 months now, so that may be a possibility. I had a few spring-blooming violets bloom out last week in confusion as well. That's fine. Comments (5)I think it's important not to make assumptions about what people should be able to do or not do at a certain age, whether they're 16 or 6 months. I do understand your feelings. My daughter has learning disabilities and has been learning how to cook for herself but sometimes she'll forget to turn the stove off. She put a plate in the microwave that shouldn't go there and it melted and also exploded food all over the inside. Nothing really awful but still it's a little scary leaving kids on their own when they just don't have those skills down yet. I have left mine alone and I was nervous the whole time but she did have one problem and she handled it perfectly. So I have to learn how to let go too. Anyway, I didn't mean to go on and on about that. I like the above writer's ideas of the frozen dinners. There are also microwavable pizzas that kids like. My SIL used to make sandwiches for a month at a time. She would make them, wrap them up individually and then return them to the bag the bread came in and refreeze them all. Her kids would take one out of the freezer in the morning and it would be ready to eat by lunchtime. Maybe you and your daughter could make some meals together before you go. At least make up a list of things she'd like to eat and start working a little bit at a time. One suggestion I remember from before was making sure you put a lable on each item frozen with cooking instructions on it. Maybe some suggestions of what needs to go with it, like salad or vegetable. If you get some canned fruit cocktail, you won't have to freeze it. Same with jarred spaghetti sauce (like Ragu or Prego). I hope all goes well. Comments (17)Leslie, I am about an hour west of Grand Island so a little jaunt for you:) My oldest is at home (5) she has preschool and is a good helper for me and can entertain herself. Also have someone coming to stay today and my mil is coming over tomorrow and after school on Wednesday my mom will come and get Rhiannon for the weekend. We haven't decided but may go for the amnio on Friday and if the baby is ready have the c-section early because of the toxemia and my blood pressure. If I can get off bed rest at 37 weeks I will go ahead and wait for the c-section. We went through this decision last year with Hayden and I told myself that if it happened again I would go with the later date, but that was because of contractions on things that could hurt the baby.
