The thing is I cut it back to where it was sprouting last year which was about two feet up from the ground, but those sprouts never amounted to much. That's why I was thinking maybe the bark had been damaged so that the sprouts were not getting good nourishment. It was well mulched so the roots should be okay, but you'd think it would sprout around the bottom near the ground if that were the case.

A few minutes ago I sawed in the soil around it to cut the roots hoping to get some root sprouts. Once, years ago, I moved it and another one came up from a root that was left, which I gave away not realizing its lack of availability nor its ultimate beauty.

my white orchid trees (bauhinia forficata) & (bauhinia mexicana) froze back to within a few inches of the ground in Dallas and San Marcos and are sprouting out. I’ve had them regrow from this freeze back a number of times and they grow to a blooming size each year. The nasturtium bauhinia (b. galpinii) freezes completely to the ground every year, regrows and flowers wonderfully.

Matt, thank you for the information on your orchid trees. Just curious; does your bauhinia forficata have thorns? My tree looks exactly like bauhinia forficata, but that tree is described as thornless.

Mine has thorns as described here: Brazilian white orchid tree ... It's stated in the link that the one with thorns is "never" offered for sale. I got mine from Schumacher's Hill Country Gardens, which is no longer in operation. Chip Schumacher was the recipient of seeds from all over the world and thus offered plants not available at plant nurseries.

I didn't cut it down to the ground after all. It's leafing out about a foot up the trunk, but I don't have high hopes that it will completely recover since it did not do much last year.

I cut some of the roots so maybe, just maybe, I'll get a root sprout.

Ragna- my b. Forficata does have thorns and is exactly as pictured in your link. B. Mexicana is thornless and is a butterfly magnet- it is often called a butterfly bush in Mexico.

Sorry to bomb this thread but can someone tell me how to post a new topic on the Texas Gardening? I'm signed in, I go to the new thread put in the topic go down and upload 3 pictures then I click NEXT and nothing happens. I've done this 5-6 times and nothing responds it just sits when I click next after loading pics. I turned off my pop-up blocker and that made no difference.

Okay, I opened the GW page by clicking on the grey "Texas Gardening" icon at the top left of the page, did a dummy post, clicked "next" and it took me to where I selected where to post. Texas Garden was the first choice. At the bottom was a green "Post" box which I assume when clicked would have posted.

However, my book mark: http://forums.gardenweb.com/forums/txgard opens to a page that looks different from the above; more like the old GW page. There is a 'title line' and then below it the box for your post. Maybe try that one.

Well I tried again, went to TX Gardening, went through posting pics and a comment and tried the NEXT at the bottom of the page which should take me to the next page to the post option but the Next just sits and won't advance at all

Is there some rule that you have to have a certain number of posts before you're allowed to start a new topic?

Because I have posted pics to established threads but just never started a new thread yet until now. I'm just trying to think of reasons why it isn't working for me....

There's no rule like that! I don't know what's going on.

I've found Houzz to be very responsive to questions. If you scroll to the bottom of this page you will see "contact us" in the first column. There are common problems you can search or you can send them an email stating your problem.

Until then I'm going to start a thread FOR YOU, and you can post your photos and comments on it.

Just wondering if you tried posting from the below link which has no "Next" option. It just says "Post" at the bottom of the message box for me.

Still, you should be able to post from the page that has the "Next" option. I wonder if it has anything to do with the device you're posting from. I'm using my home computer. Whatever the problem, I hope it gets resolved soon.
