Wolf vs. Miele 36" gas range

I am down to the final hour, should have given my decision on ranges 2 days ago to our builder for kitchen layout. I have read about every post in here about Miele vs. Wolf range/ ovens. Miele seems more feature rich, and very good, solid reputation and Wolf is incredibly solid as well. my gut is leaning toward Wolf, as the solid reputation for this product. Miele also has a,solid reputation, however newer to the 36" ra ges. i am going with the Miele steam oven, for all options and excited about the cooking/ baking i will be able to do! Does anyone have any comments on service and getting service on either? Or comments on the burners, as Miele is 12k and 19.5k, whole Wolf is 9k and 15k. simmer is important!

What direction did you go? I'm in the same boat. I am leaving toward a Sub/Wolf package with a Miele plumbed convection steam oven..... Honestly I keep looking and getting mixed reviews on everything (both very high and very low) so a lot goes to the look I like best. (Wolf).

Simmer was also a top priority for me, so I went with the Wolf

Out of those two companies, I went with the one who can locally service the equipment, which also happened to be the Wolf.

No bad answer though.

Hi USBound, I'm sure you'll get a lot of responses to this question, as many of us have these brands. I have the 36" Wolf (dual fuel, not all gas) and had narrowed it down to that and the Thermador when I made my decision. Here's my 2 cents: I selected the Wolf based on the advice of almost all the appliance repiarmen, salespeople, and GW appliance gurus I asked. Although many said the Thermador is a great unit, I was consistently told that the Wolf is the single most reliable, with the fewest repair calls. One person who has moved/installed most of the high-end brands commented that the Wolf is much heavier than the others-- it's built like a tank. When I started researching on various forums, there were just too many people who've had problems with Thermador. A range repair can not only be expensive, but in rare cases damage has occurred to adjacent marble counters during removal of the unit to repair it. (I have marble.) Just curious--did you have 6 burners in the UK? Also curious why you prefer all gas--many on the forum do. There's a major redesign on the Wolf AG that either just happened or is just about to.

Have you looked at Capital? The engineers behind the highly rated DCS of yesteryear left DCS and started Capital. I do believe DCS is now owned by Fisher Paykel. Have you read the reviews on the Appliance forum? I love my Capital 36" range. They have changed the grates (there was an issue with possible tipping pots). Their customer service is great. I called and told them that my oven racks weren't rolling like they did in the showroom, and they sent me a new rack. It glides so smoothly. Plus this range (if you get the self clean) comes with a rotisserie. If you have room for the 36", I think you should go for it. It is so nice having multiple large pots and pans on the range without hanging off the side. Even if you don't use all the burners at once, just the extra room is great. But remember, bigger range, bigger ventilation system needed. You need to add that into your budget. Here is a link that might be useful: Capital's Website

I have a 30" wall oven (Miele). I regularly preheat for 30 minutes. Years ago, before I bought the oven, I was told to expect that. The dinger goes off before 30 minutes. But the oven will not be fully and evenly heated before that. With one of those bigger range ovens I would expect 30 minutes minimum no matter what anyone says. One thing about the Miele that is not well known and that mutes the entire preheat argument. Their auto roast setting starts in a cold oven and requires no preheating. But the food is done in the same amount of time because the top and bottom elements are used and the oven algorithm compensates. I use this setting so often I would buy the oven again just to have it.

We have had the 36" Blue Star range (model RCS36SB) for about 5 years and would not recommend it. The knobs get very warm and we have had problems with the convection fan as well as ignition (gas would build up in the oven while it failed to ignite), both problems required multiple service visits The latest problem, the oven knob broke off and Bluestar said they no longer manufacture the part. Bluestar said they changed from a mechanical thermostat to an electronic thermostat and the ”upgrade” would cost $350 to purchase, not including installation (total cost estimated at least $500). I assume they redeigned the oven knob/thermostat because they had so many problems with the knob, convection and ignition. Even though it was under warranty and the knob broke due to faulty design, the service manager refused to provide a replacement part. I guess you can expect problems to occur with any appliance, but I do not expect them to provide such poor service, especially when they know it broke due to their own design flaw. It takes them days to follow up on service questions. Best to stay away from Blue Star.

I did go with the wolf range and the Miele steam oven I really felt that was the best fit with the simmers and the look and everything I've read with again mixed reviews and I went with my gut thank you for your help

AVOID MIELE RANGES. UNRELIABLE UNITS. TERRIBLE SERVICE.

We've had Miele dishwashers for literally decades; they have been great, trouble-free performers. Not so the 36" gas range that we bought for a kitchen reno in 2016. The design is nice and the basic functionality is great, but the reliability is the absolute pits. MIele released this line of products before they were ready for prime time. And Miele knows it. We have had burners replaced several times for ignition failures. Last time around the technician replaced all six burners with "upgrades" (I'm guessing, redesigns that cure the faults of the original burners). The little part that detects when the oven door is closed and shuts off the broiler if it's open? It melted when the (extremely hot) broiler was on for more than a few minutes. The rubber feet for the grates constantly disintegrate; we've gone through literally a dozen of them. And now that our unit is out of warranty, Miele wants $32 each for replacements (and there are no aftermarket parts available anywhere). The latest problem is the oven door latch mechanism, which has failed so that the unit will not go into self-clean mode.

Making matters worse, Miele's service operation was gutted during the pandemic and has not recovered. Their call center is offshore somewhere, and the people are clueless about the products. As for the technician dispatch in NJ ... don't get me started. Totally dysfunctional. The techs themselves are highly competent ... when you can actually get someone to come. Constant scheduling screwups, technicians not being told what parts to bring, several week lead times, etc. Their service is beyond unacceptable for a premium-priced brand. And we have yet to find a third-party repair service that will work on Miele ranges (dishwashers yes, ranges no).

I'm sorely tempted to throw the thing out and go with Blue Star or Wolf. AVOID.
