Please help me finish family room -- especially windows!
Comments (19)Wow - AKtillery's makeover is inspirational! Here's a link to Overstock's version of the silk curtains I have in mind (I'm looking at mine at Tuesday Morning, so I need to decide today or they'll be gone tomorrow!) Because they are so light as is my sectional, it would have a tone-on-tone effect rather than contrast. But I really didn't want to call too much attention to them by making them a darker color -- I just wanted to add some layering and warmth. Or am I altogether too boring? By the way, the curtains are a much less expensive option than shades. http://www.overstock.com/Home-Garden/Signature-Pearl-White-Textured-Silk-Curtain-50-in.-x-108-in./3846748/product.html Thanks so much!...See MoreHelp remodling the family side of ths great room
Comments (15)You know what, if you can afford to not turn the corner (the space is big enough for however big tv you want) I think I'd keep the whole thing flat. The TV will intrude less and also have less glare from the windows on it. If it were my space personally, I think I'd do the raised hearth all the way over to the corner and have it die into the corner wall. I'd have some unobtrusive shelving housing a few components (as little as you can) below the TV. I'd have the tv on a swing arm as lesmobo describes, and in such a way that it can tuck back. And then I might run the mantel all the way across as well, above the TV? Would that look weird? And do the stone up to the ceiling only on the fireplace side. But I do like the stone all the way up on both sides as well. I think this could still be successful without doors hiding the TV as the next picture would show. Comments (24)Bestyears, I just had to log in to say first, your room is fabulous. I love the color you painted it and am jealous of your amazing sewing skills. I love the fabrics you have chosen. The second thing I wanted to say is to think long and hard before purchasing the braided jute rug from Ballard. I absolutely love the look. It has to be one of the best looking jute rugs out there, but it is a maintenance nightmare. It takes some getting used to underfoot but will eventually wear to a somewhat soft feel. The maintenance however, is tremendous. I had one for 2.5 years in our primary living area with heavy traffic and it was like have 15 large shedding dogs with a few cats sprinkled in. Fibers everywhere. If your room doesn't get much traffic it might work otherwise I would try to find something else first. I replaced it with a cheap seagrass from Lowes for the time being and it doesn't shed at all. Laurainlincoln might can share more if she has this rug. It might not wear for her like it did for me. Comments (33)Love this room. I would consider painting the room a lighter version of any color in the brick because that is your focal point! The layout looks good too as you can see the tv and the fireplace while seated on the sofa. I think you should decide on the paint that will coordinate with the brick. Then choose a light large rug, maybe broadloom in a light tweed rug to banish the dark flooring and create contrast with your sofa. I would also put the cool guitars on either side of the TV in a long horizontal line to fill the wall. Try the copper piece between the two doors. Put a large rectangular mirror on the brick fireplace Find large art work for the far wall where the guitars are now...maybe a triptych to fill the area; Matching lingerie type tall chest on either side of the fireplace with colorful lamps on them. A console table behind the sofa facing the fireplace with a pair of low fat lamps, possibly brass or silver or zinc. A pair of lamps on the new art wall where the guitars are hanging now. Something that will look good with the art work; clear glass with colored lampshades? A large lounge chair between the TV console and the fireplace, basically where the ottoman is now with a side table and a lamp for reading. This will give you six pair of lamps for lighting and one floor lamp for lighting plus storage. They should be large and fat to fill the room. and light colored will give you contrast....Have light, white cream natural fabric, fur throw pillows on the sofa to lighten it up too. Light curtains, roman shades white pillows large art LIght rug, roman shades light pillows, light walls Colorful lamp shades and colorful lamp, ligth pillows Again light rug light pillows...See MoreRelated Professionals
