There should be an 'app' for meat
Comments (31)OMG this is sort of funny! I only have a pay by the minute cell I keep in the car for emergencies. Of course anywhere I've actually felt I might need it I didn't have coverage. So I don't have app capability either. I thought I was the only one lol! However...after standing in the meat dept (and vegetable aisle and apple aisle and cheese aisle) at Meijers and never having a clue I haved pondered the idea of buying one of the dang things just to be able to look things up in the grocery store:) Mustang says used "sliced beef"...but what KIND? A round thing a chuck thing a loin thing a sirloin thing a roast thing..I did try to research this once and I think there were two schools of thought, a round something and a..and a...can't remember! (So studying up does not work) Duane - I loved the Jetsons where are our aircars!? Jessy - LOL! Linda - good to hear you recommend sirloin because that is what I think I tried once. The strip steak I usually buy to grill, the strip side of a porterhouse? I just slightly froze it and sliced it with a knife. Lots of small pieces when bigger slices would have been nicer but tasted good. Seems kind of expensive for a sandwich though don't you think? I thought a mandolin might work but didn't want to buy one. I have to drive a bit for a butcher. I was just at Meijers today and asked the kid behind the counter if he knew what a beef "shank" was and did he have any. He had no clue. Called someone, they have some pork ones. So the only beef they had with bones were ribs - do those work as "shanks" for the beef barley soup recipe posted for me to try in my soup thread? Momj47 - so there is an app called "Butcher" - how helpful is it?...See Moreneed help for menu for 30 men on Weds. night
Comments (26)I think I am in good shape for the party (clearly a reference to food prep). The gumbo is made and in the fridge. It has to be heated up and the shrimp and crab have to be added at the last moment. I've partially cooked the sausage so they can finish on the grill. If I didn't do that, my husband would char the heck out of them. I don't know how much gumbo my recipe makes, but to give you an idea, the serving bowl is 11 inches tall by about 11 inches wide. It should feed 25. Thus the 30 sausages. Hearty rolls, mustard... we should be all set. The spiced nuts came out great (thanks AnnT) and the pigs in blankets are waiting in the fridge. Brownies are done and a tray of oatmeal raisinet cookies are cooling. The rice will be last minute as it looks like I may have to hang around afterall (I am not complaining!) Tomorrow all I have to do is some last minute shopping for incidentals and maybe another batch of cookies. Thanks for all the help and entertainment. Comments (23)In response to MountainBreeze.... I agree that its sort of "non-traditional" to ask people to come to a destination wedding that you have no intension of reciprocating their efforts by paying for a meal or cake and punch. BUT I also think that if the guest list is small enough for the people traveling to the wedding you don't even NEED to send invitations. Email, call, have your Mom or someone call... It's always easier to talk to someone about a sticky situation informally than trying to figure out some eloquent way to tell them something they might not want to hear. (you know it comes off impersonal and therefore impolite) Then with the people invited to your reception at home, just make it like a regular invitation...as formal or informal as you want. I mean the economy issues go both ways, but if you go to a family member or a friend personally and say... We can't afford this but love you and wish you could attend; please do if you can afford it as well then you don't even need to worry about half the stuff that I'm sure is on your mind. I have a similar problem have been searching around the web....maybe someone brilliant can help me!! I am getting married in my home town...which I don't live in and neither does my man. We are having a small family wedding with a formal sit down dinner to follow in my home town in Indiana. THEN.... we (my fianc and I) are coming back "home" to Tennessee to have a follow-up less formal reception celebration with our friends and some of my extended family who also live in TN. Majority of the people who are invited to the wedding are not coming to the Reception in Tennessee. (Why would they it's far away and they already saw us get married?) BUT there are about 50 extended family members (that all live in TN) that I want to invite to the wedding with the anticipation that they will choose to come to the Reception in TN instead of driving to IN. So I was thinking of sending the following: Indiana wedding people get invitations to the wedding with RSVP Cards ( That will Read: Please Reply by X: Accept ____ Decline_____ if accepting: Chicken_______ or Steak________; Tennessee Reception ONLY people get there own seperate invitations to the Reception saying (we were married on XYZ, please join us for a Reception celebrating our marriage at blah blah; Then! Here in lies the problem--what do I do about those 50 family members who I want to invite to the wedding and also give them the choice of coming to the Tennessee Reception? I was thinking of sending them a seperate Reception card (included when I send the wedding invites) that say in a nut shell "in lieu of wedding you can instead attend the Tennessee Reception") Now... how do I word that without sounding like an idiot (see above!) or does anyone of this world wide web have a better idea!!!!! I'm getting married in April of 2011 I've have run out of Freaking Time to be clueless!! Thank you to anyone who responds. StephC....See MoreApp/Program used to draw floor plans?
Comments (33)hahaha mushcreek. I can relate as I used to do paper sculpture. I suppose I could do a scaled model of my house. Hmm, maybe I should? Nah! Lindsy, I did use my computer program (photoshop) to sketch up what I wanted at first. I didn't work with an architect which is probably why it took me so long. I worked with a draftsman. Big Mistake! If I had it to do over, I would have brought my ideas to an architect. This is the very first sketch I brought the draftsman. Notice I didn't really concern myself with actual sizes etc but only with an overall general feel of which rooms I wanted where. For example, I knew the garage had to be where it was and I was required to have the front door on the other street (it's a corner lot). I also knew I wanted a "courtyard feel to my back yard and I wanted my kitchen near my garage. I also knew I wanted the master, DH's study (labeled den) and the great room to open to the yard. The problem was as some here alluded to, was that he then got stuck on the idea of the stairway where I had it, etc. He couldn't visualize anything on his own. I have a design background, so wound up designing it completely by myself WITH the help of the folks and especially with the help of the architects on this forum. And this is what we wound up with:...See Moreannie1992
