Hummingbird Spring Migration 2018

It's time to start thinking about hummingbirds in your garden! Granted they probably won't actually be here in New England until the middle of April or beginning of May, but why quibble?

They're starting to leave their wintering territories in Central America now and are setting foot on the continental U.S. with Florida as the usual first stop, although Louisiana is apparently on the early route too.

There are three sightings noted in Florida on February 27 and 28 and one in Louisiana on February 28 on the current hummingbirds.net Ruby-throated Hummingbird Spring Migration Map!

I'll be posting screenshots of this map periodically to record the progress of the migration and to warn when it's time to get the feeders out of the cellar and into the yard (not yet).

The maps are produced by the hummingbirds.net website where there's lots of useful and interesting information about the Ruby-throated Hummingbird. Maps of previous years migrations are available at that website.
