thoughts on white washed white oak plank floors
Comments (4)I wouldn't go with a heavy whitewash. I just think some are overdone. There's always that option of refinishing (change colors, eliminate whitewash) once it does get dated...and it will. However a deep wire brush may limit the possibilities, along with a thin veneer engineered. Wire brushing goes hand in hand with white wash as that's the way the color tone is achieved. Here's are two subtle whitewashes. The first job was done in Tiverton, Rhode Island. The second in Boston. Comments (4)That is a lot of pine and painting will hide the knots where staining won’t so I think you need to decide the look you want.I am not a big pine lover so I would probably paint the walls take the ceiling back to natural colorand hopefully the ceilings and the floor would be the same as the ceiling to keep finishes to a min.Stay away from any yellow hued lighting , so no Edison buls anywhere. Use LEDs in 3500-5000K range to keep the light as close to natural sunlight as possible , most of my clients like 4000K range for lighting. I think a lot of the feel will come from your furnishings , art and rugs....See MoreWhite wash, lime wash or do nothing?
Comments (20)Paint the fence and gate black. I recently spray painted part of my mother's chain link fence and posts. It was very easy to do. Rustoleum spray paint. Give the gate a bit of a brush with a wire brush before painting. Downspouts dark brown so they don't contrast against the brick. This isn't a house for an elaborate driveway. Black asphalt will look just fine. I can't see enough of the house to see where a walkway would go so I won't comment on that. But again, nothing too patterned or colourful. I've seen too many "fancy" walkways that clash badly with the house's brick, although they probably looked great at the showroom or in a brochure. I'd stick with dark brown slabs. She can stain (not paint) the new brick to match the old brick. Stain can be custom tinted. https://romabio.com/faqs/#masonry What is the white box to the right of the driveway? Can it be painted to make it less obvious? After removing the evergreens, come back for advice on planting. For now, I'd remove the 3 sad shrubs in the middle of the grass....See MoreCurrent: knotty pine walls. Should we keep, white wash or paint white?
Comments (18)There have been some great suggestions, but I feel like we’re working in a vacuum here. What is your vision for your home? Although this has focused on the knotty pine, whether to paint it, and what flooring to pick, so much of the process is about the style you want, the furniture you have (or will buy), the colors you like, and the budget. I could go with light oak flooring, old Oriental rugs, nautical touches, red and navy and off-white, but I could also pick a dark green marmoleum floor, Morris chairs, black painted bookcases, a more rustic vibe, and plaids. How do you see it all coming together?...See Morejean1
