Need help figuring out a dining table for my Small Dining Room
Comments (9)I have about that size dining room with walkways on all sides. In my previous house, I had a 48" square dining table that I used when we moved in. I bought a 48" round table, it was amazing the difference it made. There are only 3 of us so I just keep 3 chairs around the table on a daily basis. You could do a drop leaf. I am not sure it you could find one in a style that would go with your house. I have 2 drop leafs that I use around the house and bring out when I need more tables for company but they are both Duncan Phyfe antiques. Another option would be a round with a leaf or two that expands for family. You'll be amazed how a round fits the space better. Something about cutting off those sharp corners make it easier to maneuver through the rooms....See MoreNeed Help with furniture/TV placement in dining room design
Comments (10)It would help if we had a better idea about the orientation of the rooms -- the space you have available. I agree with those who suggested you consider swapping the functions of the rooms -- make the existing dining room the TV viewing room and move the DR table to another room (LR or FR). Failing that, is it possible to extend the feed from the security cameras to a location where you would actually want to sit and watch TV? Failing that, could you purchase a nice tablet for hubby that he can have with him anywhere in the house, so he would have ready access to view the security feeds? After all, I would think the need to view those feeds is momentary at best -- watch a movie, pause the movie to check cameras for a second, return to movie -- right? He's not going to actually sit there and watch the feeds for any appreciable period of time, I would think (although my father can sit for appreciable periods of time watching the Weather Channel, so what do I know?)....See MoreNeed help with chairs for dining room table/wall color
Comments (2)As far as the mason jars on the wall, this is what I had envisioned but I just want everything to be uniform and match is all. Ignore the dark wood... I would prob stain it the same color as the table is stained so it matches... or does it even matter?...See MoreNeed help with layout: adding a dining room
Comments (28)Houssaon I like your ideas, thanks! I did just want to add that building off the back on the right side won’t ruin the possibility of good quality rooms below. The room underneath the primary bedroom is a store room with my oil tank and a portion of the downstairs bedroom/office which has two other large egress windows. Adding something on Wouldn’t impact anything downstairs really beyond a little less light in a massive bedroom, we could always put a closet on that side of the room. Adding to the back of sitting room would however have a big effect as it would block the southern/western light from entering into the downstairs windows in that bedroom. There is also electrical and the hose spout coming off the back of the left side of the house. We are still considering adding to the back as a back up plan if we can’t add to the front because of our hope for more living space. Just wanted to give that context. I’d put the dining room next to the kitchen and then the living room towards the back. We have friends whose main bedroom is off their living room in a similar distance to their bathroom like with the proposed layout and although it’s not common, I don’t mind it and they are able to make it to their bathroom no problem (and she was pregnant recently). It’s a pretty small scale house and I’ve lived in houses where a bathroom wasn’t even on the same floor so it wouldn’t be a huge inconvenience for me. We could always add an ensuite on to our master suite later. Given that info, any thoughts?...See MorePamela Inch
