If the fixture does not weigh over 25 pounds, you could purchase a 2' piece of track and an end feed along with a pendant adaptor. The track would run from the box to where you need the fixture to hang (the track can be cut) and you would wire the fixture to the adaptor. This has been done many times. If you don't like the idea of the hook, but it is the easiest, you can get a cord cover which is sold in lighting showrooms that matches the colors in the fixture and just put that over the chain and hook, then extend it over to where the box is. Fun- do you have a picture? Rocket- thanks for chiming in. Unfortunately we need some privacy at night and early morning. Although it seems other GWers love the working drapery panels. At this point anything will be an improvement! Our youngest giant schnauzer has no interests in drapes or blinds or shades, however he has pulled off at least three vertical blinds!! He is very entertained by bringing us his new "toy" only to watch us reattach to the track. One could not be reattached so we had to move one from the back to the very visual center!

We have the same problem in our dining room. And the real 'ACK' part is that we gutted our whole kitchen/dining area and removed the old ceiling, so we could have addressed it properly the first time. Once the new dining room table was in, it was obvious we would be moving it off centre (pathway to deck is behind table), and we're kicking ourselves. DH is planning to buy a plaster medallion to put up on the ceiling, so that the edge of it will cover the old hole. Luckily, he is an electrical engineer, so he can do the rewiring. I COULD patch the hole, but what a LITERAL pain in the neck. So not only will the fixture be off-centre, but medallion will be too. I am pretty sure it will cost you more than $35 extra on top of the first $35 to rewire in a new location- assuming there is enough wire up there to allow the move. Ours is accessible from the attic.

Great discourse, everyone--thanks so much! So many different issues that we all deal with LOL. This is a friend's home and it's a house full--my friend, her daughter and 3 active grandkids (13, 9 and 5) and pets of course! I was wondering how we could make it easier to navigate from the living room to the rest of the house the only pathway being through the dining room. With the table smack dab in the middle, it gets crowded. The light fixture is a fan/light combo and isn't going anywhere soon. oakleyok, your idea of putting of the table (end) against a wall with a lamp at that end is what I was thinking and would work beautifully! It would free up a lot of space. The table is rectangular and they could seat 5 easily. There just happens to be a window there, too which would be great for school work or just hanging out. I saw a few homes on Google images that were gorgeous but the dining room light wasn't centered over the dining table--funny thing was, had I not been looking for it, I probably wouldn't have noticed that! Thanks again, in my own kitchen I'm going to use the *swag to the center* idea when I get around to it. catkin
