Window seat/banquette bench with table? Photos?
Comments (11)Yes, I think it was the Ode to Banquette Lafacia - take a look at a "Boat" shaped table. I am going to post mine - but you want a "real" table and not the pop-up variety. Mine was done by an Amish/English - not sure if you would call it a cooperative but the Amish do part of it and the English finish it off with the stain, etc. I think the shape would work - they make a table in this shape as well. I think it was called Grand River or Grand Rapids - if you like it, I can find the info. This is a catalog picture - I think this is actually the desk - we also bought the desk but had it sized for our house - so they will work with you to "customize" it. Here it is - decked out for 2 for breakfast - We kept it small as the entry into the kitchen might have been problematic if we went too large. - Mostly, I want you to see the boat shape - not sure if the pictures capture it - but imagine a boat with the ends cut off - it gives a bit more room to climb into the area - but it is not too much that it is not functional. From the other angle Pop goes the weasel - ours pops up to a table height - but since you need to seat 5 -not an option for you....See MoreHas anyone made a window seat or bench seat cover?
Comments (15)Yes you can make it sanborn. If you railroad the fabric, you'll need three yards. Fold the fabric length wise so that you have a 104 inch run then cut the width 42 to 44" inches wide (depending on the thickness of the foam you use) Upholstery fabric (that's I suggest you use) runs 54' wide, so you'll have about 10 to 12" x 108" left over for throw pillows. You can either use foam or stuffing. Turn you fabric inside out and sew along the back, turn you fabric to the right side and slip your foam in, if it's too loose, sew it tighter. Then sew one end and slip your foam in again. The other end you can pin tightly, then hand sew close. I did a cushion for my piano seat this way, and got a nice tight fit. Be use to pick out a fabric (pattern) that lends itself to railroading. Also you may have to glue together the foam cushion to get a 108" foot run. They sell foam adhesive in an spray can. Good luck, Joann...See MoreBanquette seating against windows (height?)
Comments (6)This is the best picture I have of the back of my house showing all the windows, sorry. The kitchen is the right side of the house in this picture. The bank of windows you see will be made of 2 wider windows instead of 4 skinnier ones. We will be residing the house next year after the kitchen project. (there's no insulation so the whole skin is coming off so we can insulate from the outside, plus the siding isn't in the best shape) The hill under the windows will become a deck area and the grass in the forefront of the picture will be a pool. The view from the kitchen windows will be the garage roof for now, but after the deck is in I hope to add some taller evergreens into the landscaping if possible for shade and a screen for the garage from the house. As far as adding a counter to that wall, I suppose it's possible, but we intend on staying on this house for quite a while....See MoreAdvice on banquet/window seat in kitchen
Comments (5)Thanks Ann, I'm uncertain about the upper corner unit as well. If you mean this kind of door, I agree - http://ths.gardenweb.com/discussions/3394480/easy-reach-upper-cabinet I may call the cabinet company to confirm this, but I was told by designer the option pictured above isnt possible, I can only do variations of a diagonal unit, a blind corner, or a piano hinge door, not the type shown in the discussion above. Our summer cabin has the piano hinge door and lots of problems - several gouges on adjoining doors from failed attempts at opening and closing it. As of now we are doing a "spinning susan" on the bottom, which we have had and loved, where the door is attached to the lazy susan and spins with it. Unfortunately that doesn't seem to be an option for the upper. I do plan to call the cabinet manufacturer and confirm these things for myself. I know the landing space is not ideal according to guidelines. I currently have less than that on one side on a rangetop and doesn't bother me a bit. I rarely use multiple burners at once, and use the unused burners as the landing on that side. I am choosing the big range mainly for the multiple ovens (Aga legacy 44") We experimented with other locations for the range, but hemmed in by the load bearing wall by the fridge location, and expensive obstacles for ventilating it from anywhere else. We did move the sink down to the end of the window, and plan to use the integral cutting board of the Blanco Ikon sink for some prep, to help create a bit more space....See MoreLynda
