I was thinking a light gray or light brown siding. Also was going to add some 6 x 6 beams on the front porch and was planning on painting or replacing garage door to match trim (white preferably). Any recommendations on colors? Actually most of the houses in the area have rock of some kind, all built in the early 80s.

1. no, not white I'd say..joo jarring with the rock..stained wood might be cool, but probably really expensive?

5. I'd be interested to hear other responses, it's not like i've big experience with exteriors. Say I'd love to see the new roof first -or have a very good idea of it first..before I consider finally other elements. But one needs to know order of things. Hope you'll get more responses soon.

The rock looks nice to me! Is that a metal roof? Though I'm not a roofing expert, I think that's the kind of roof folks where I live are replacing their shingled roofs for... Don't metal roofs have a 50 year lifetime or some such? To me, it looks fine I wouldn't replace a roof just to change it.

In order to make the place look nicer, you need to perhaps address that funny handrail, and dress up those stairs with a safer, beefier railing. An entryway will look better with an emphasis on the door, so I would paint the door a different, stand-out color, like a green or blue. It doesn't have to be bright, just a different color. The garage will look best in a color that makes the doors blend in. I'd take down the basketball hoop and get a hoop that doesn't hang on the house.

If you do some nice plants up against that front rock wall, and around the edges of the driveway, the entrance will look nicer, and that's what you want.

The only jarring note on that terrific house is the starkness of the siding. Put in a great earthy green like SW Sawdust, and choose a burgundy brown like SW Flowerpot for the windows, and the house would be even better.

And landscaping. It needs landscaping.

I love the metal roof, and would replace with same (maybe different color), if the cost is do-able. I could see changing colors, but the general idea of what is there now is good: garage door dark or blending with stone, with contrasting, lighter entry. Great looking house!

I love the rock too. If the metal roof is in good shape, I wouldnt be replacing it either. Metal roofs are what is replacing shingle roofs these days. I can see a whole lot of other things, I would change. One would be the vinyl siding, and I wouldnt be replacing it with vinyl either. Either wood, or hardie plank siding.

Repainting the door, siding, garage, roof trim, and window washes and casing to fresher, stronger colors to make the rock recede. It isn’t that the rock is bad, but that everything is brown and blah. It needs some color and refreshing, not a total exterior gut job :)

it seems to me power washing the rock would help tremendously; then keeping it from getting too moldy with regular maintenance.

The roof is probably leaking around the overhang, or lack thereof. I imagine water is splashing up under metal every time it rains. I will look into the Cedar trellis and see what we can come up with. THanks

My alarm bells are ringing. My concern is water damage, both old and ongoing. Any house should be gone over by a home inspector before buying and I suggest you hire one. Check the lawn's slope to see if rain floods the crawl space. Check the stone for cracks that let rain soak the framing. Check for leaks where the siding meets the concrete porch. Check the eaves, rafters and roof decking.

It's not the rock, it's the landscaping.

Keep the rock. It's cool. I wish I had a rock house. Do not paint the garage door white. That roof doesn't look that old, you might want to keep it. Metal roofs last longer than shingles. It just looks like the fascia/gutters/soffit need addressed. I am with Sophie on the earthy green and burgundy brown. Also railing on porch and field stone walk way.
