It keeps going and going and going.....

In late summer of 2016 I bought a potted daisy-like mum plant, not one of those giant mounded plants, and when it died back I meant to plant it outside but never did. Along with some spent hyacinths I bought in Spring '17, I abandoned them all, kept on a tray next to a full-glass not currently used back door. Determined to clean up the area well before Thanksgiving, I went to throw out the mum, but saw buds on one still alive part of it. Pulled out all the other dead plants, cut off dead branches and watered. Later moved it to the LR bow window when it started blooming and was surprised it was still blooming profusely at Christmas. I find it really interesting that it has not yet stopped blooming, and in fact still has more buds! I'm so amazed!! The flowers are singles/daisy-like, a deep orangey-crimson and are such a bright spot on the dreary days that I plan to have flowering plants in the winter from now on. BTW the the hyacinths all bloomed again, too, but as expected, those were rather short lived. Anyone else have an indoor potted mum rebloom for months or another unexpected plant experience?

Take a photo for us. Things like this give you hope that Spring is right around the corner. My Cyclamen has bee flowering. And my Christmas cactus has re-bloomed after an early bloom.

Graywings, I wish I could! My camera has a lot of photos on the card, and the last time I tried transferring into my old Mac I found, much to my horror, that a lot of my old photos and videos are gone, with only an exclamation mark left!!! I haven't dared to do this again. I need to back up my images, but there are other complications. Actually, I had forgotten about it until you asked!

Pam, thanks for the link! I sent this thread and the link to my friend Linda, who gave me the cutting of the salvia last fall, to tell her it had been named. This is her reply: "I will have to send you a pix of mine because it is covering up my kitchen window! It buried my camellias. It is beautiful. Mine is bloomed out now. The butterflies were all over it as they are all salvias. "I have a TON of sulphurs again this year. I am always blessed with an amazing butterfly show. My #1 tip for butterflies is to plant broccoli now. Even if you don't like the veggie it is a butterfly MAGNET! When it bolts in the spring and throws off those huge bouquets of yellow flowers the butterflies beat it up! I discovered it by accident one year and that is the only veggie I grow and I do it for the butterflies. The broccoli doesn't freeze so it is the first nectar source available along with the crossvine. "I hope your salvia doesn't get as big as mine did this year. Six foot tall and eight foot wide. I was stunned." I might have to think about moving Tula to give her room to spread. How big is yours Pam? I'm also going to be planting broccoli!

And in the northern part of this great continent we have a gentle blanket of white snow which is quickly disappearing. Making for slushy roads and sidewalks. No need for AC but the furnace is comfy with temps around zero.

Toni, I can relate with that completely, even though I don't have the cold. (sickness I mean!) I really think a list is a great help, and then only require getting one thing on that list each day. Some days you will be surprised at getting extra things done. When I am in a "work spurt" Tom always asks if we are having company! That is happening less and less. I'm looking forward to Christmas, but I'm not excited about the extra work. I think we need to find a way to make it fun! We cut back on gift giving several years ago already. That magazine and cappuucino sounds great!

Despite that only Graywings responded to this post last month, I still find it amazing that my little plant started budding before Thanksgiving, was blooming profusely well before Christmas, and has been blooming non-stop since. Since in in 7 days it will be Easter it will easily make it to then and beyond as there are still more buds along with the blooms. The orangey-red single blooms are daisy-like and most are large. Some of the leaves have been getting brownish-dead-leaf like spots on them. Not sure what to do.

That's an amazing plant! I've had -- have -- plants that I can't seem to kill, and I don't know why. I didn't garden other than planters when I lived in Dallas so I wonder if the climate has something to do with your plant's longevity? Maybe it's a Lazarus Mum, if there is such a thing!

LOL bpathome! Lake, it is definitely a mum. It was a common inexpensive one bought at one one those garden center displays of mounded mums, only this was one of the smaller-medium sized ones. It is of the variety that have single blooms, so they look daisy-like. I just found a photo online which looks almost exactly like mine, but it's a copywritted photo that I don't think it would be right to use, but it is the first image that comes up for me when I google: Alamy red and yellow Chrsysanthemums.
