Help with playroom
Comments (5)The swatch on the wall is too dark. I made the same mistake in our small playroom. The shade is very similar to yours as is the darkness. I'm going to repaint as soon as it's feasible. Our kids are more happy playing in our living room, painted Rainwashed by Sherwin Williams. It's a slightly greyed down, ever so slightly green light blue. Not quite turquoise. It feels open and airy, gives a great sense of a sunny day outside. I would highly recommend you give it a good size sample on a piece of foam board in this room. It will transition nicely to the other more muted rooms in your house too. Plays nicely with warm browns and with grey. Can't say enough good about it! ETA **it's not Rainwashed, it's Tidewater, also SW. They are both gorgeous!...See MoreNeed help with big dark playroom area
Comments (9)Fiona, ok. but you did ask how to work w/the "dark" playroom. you could bringing in more lighting if you're not willing to paint that room. How about if you leave that one wall that color, but paint the other 3 a nice white? Could that be a compromise? if you did something like this, and brought in a fluffy white rug, it would lighten up the space The red is a nice color w/the wood floors and ceiling, which I really like, but if you did the other 3 in the white, you'd be amazed at how better the room would look. tape off a lower portion for the chalkboard. btw, does the entire space have to be a playroom? do you want to divide half of it? maybe use a portion for schooling or office or a lounging/reading computer area? what if you painted that wall black, and did the other white, but brought in some red accents? The black wall w/the white book cases around it would look great w/all of the wood...See Moredesign help! guest/kids playroom
Comments (7)Since it is for kids to play in, I would choose something a bit brighter, but, not so bright, that it cant double as a guest room too. I see a peacock painting against the wall, pick your colors from that painting, and a darker area rug, would be nice also, and wont show dirt or stains as much as a light one, when you have kids playing on it. Sherwin Williams Blue Iris, may be an option for you. It will go with the lighter aqua in your couch, and the peacock picture will look amazing with it....See MoreHelp needed with playroom layout
Comments (23)I agree with you lofts are really not great functional spaces for much. Every child is sooo different and your guy being the first may not learn some challenging behaviors that could make this space a struggle. We would have hinged child safety gates at the top of the stairs and plexi glass in front of the stiles on the railing that looks over the space below. "Falling" toys would be very annoying. A love seat with it's back to all the doors would visually separate the play area. Add a bug comfy chair and you have a seating area. A large area rug for less echoing as well as carpet play would help define the space. Some would choose one of those graphic city scapes that a child would play cars on. Cubbies across the wall with the windows with baskets or plastic bins would give you tons of storage. Skinny book shelves between the windows would enable some toys/books to be stored out of reach. A good thing for certain types of art supplies . After that it's about how he plays. What toys does he have will he want. It doesn't have to be super organized or styled looking....See MoreOlychick
