U.S. 36 garage sales?
Comments (9)We will be there Thurs night sometime to start setting up, Fri, Sat & selling/packing up on Sunday. We live near Kansas City, KS, west of the Speedway Track near the town of Basehor. That is a little over 2 hours from Axtell. My brother owns his own machanics garage in town and will be on the Axtell map again this year. Comments (3)Hi Alanis, At our plant sale we sell our cannas potted up in 2 gal pots with 3-5 eyes (is our aim) for $5 ea or 3/for $12. If I have some of the fancier varieties like Pink Sunburst or Australia then they would be more. I think I know the name of the canna you are referring to but don't recall right now. There are a few that fit that description. It depends if the flowers are big like with Red King Humbert. Or are they small; this one I call copperleaf. I'll find the name ande get back to you. Comments (10)I thought I was going to get rained out this week but the rain stopped early. The first stop I only picked up two stuffed animals. Nick has a fit if I don't bring him something like that and for under $1 each, I oblige him. I admit I do it to keep him interested in yard sales! Second stop was a jackpot of sorts. For $5 (she said she'd take $4 but since I had a 5 dollar bill, I gave her $5 since she discounted everything that was cheap to begin with), I got a bag of 5 bigger beanie babies, Halloween and Christmas themed. I find with small children, those are fun and safe to bring out around the holidays instead of traditional (breakable) decorations. I got a Phillies Jack in the Box. Dan loves Jack in the boxes but they can be so expensive. I also got an ornament, and a T-shirt to work out in - it says Miss Teen America Pageant LOL. Oh, I got a dance workout DVD too - I laughed since it was marked 'used only once'. There was a Christmas promotional CD in with that too. Remember ALL of it was $5. I was going to quit but I brought Dan out for another run and I scored big - that dream item you specifically want but don't think you'll ever find. It was a Sesame Street tool bench with some extra tools for $3. Some of the Sesame Street tools are missing but Dan doesn't know. It still talks and he loves it. They have one at the daycare where Nick goes to before and after school and I used to have to tear Dan out of there kicking and screaming because of that tool bench. He played with it as I carried it to the car and had a screaming fit when I put it in the trunk. Last stop I got two Sesame Street DVDs ($1 each) and a clay/ceramic loaf pan (25 cents). Comments (2)Becklescc...I'm just down the road in Patchogue, but grew up in Medford. We're fortunate here to be able to grow most anything, but with one caveat I'll offer...the soil up your way (at least, where I was off Woodside Ave.) tends to be very sandy, thin, and acidic (we're right at the edge of the Pine Barrens, and there's a reason nothing grows in the Pine Barrens but pine!). If you've got native pine trees close by, you're in that area. For the best success, I'd recommend spending some time improving that soil first... go over to the Holtsville ecology center ASAP (or better yet, the town dump, if you have a pickup truck) and load up as much compost as you can carry (yes, its full of weed seeds, but its free). Get a 6 inch layer laid down and work it in with a good bit of lime to bring the PH up. Otherwise, with that sandy acidic soil, you're likely to get a really limited yield from whatever you plant (Dad and I both plant the same varieties from the same source...his tomatoes never get more than about 2 feet tall, while mine literally top out at over 6 feet!).
