Comments (3)Hi Alanis, At our plant sale we sell our cannas potted up in 2 gal pots with 3-5 eyes (is our aim) for $5 ea or 3/for $12. If I have some of the fancier varieties like Pink Sunburst or Australia then they would be more. I think I know the name of the canna you are referring to but don't recall right now. There are a few that fit that description. It depends if the flowers are big like with Red King Humbert. Or are they small; this one I call copperleaf. I'll find the name ande get back to you. Comments (13)I love going to garage sales. Here's my take on it. Some people have garage sales where they are selling about $15 total worth of stuff. My sister who comes with me sometimes always marvels at these sales. She can't fathom why anyone would sit in their garage all day for that bit of money. My answer is, well, because they enjoy it! There are people who really don't have a lot to do and enjoy sitting there, striking up conversations with customers, etc. For them, a low $ garage sale isn't so much about the $, it's about the activity itself. The $$ are just a bonus. So... in your case, I'd say donate. I love going TO garage sales, but in my life I've had only about two of them, both times selling large items (furniture and such), thus making it worth my while. You kind of have to use dd50's logic. Estimate how much you will make vs how many hours you'll be sitting there and come up with an amount per hour. Then figure if your time is worth that or not. Comments (11)I haven't been a sale-giver nor posted on Craigslist, but it would be interesting to compare effort and hassle of those methods. For garage sales, you'll get varying feedback--it's a personal choice and so much based on your own psyche and how you approach things. For a lot of people, any money made is money they would not have and so is worth the effort. If can't make "more" extra $$ by working more hours at regular job or doing some other extra thing, then sure, it is relatively low-paying but it is a payoff within your sphere of action. So that person will say, sure I spent several weeknights sorting and pricing and spent Saturday giving the sale but otherwise I would have just done who knows what, and now I have $___ to spend on something I want. It helps to have either a lot of stuff or some desirable stuff because things go for just pennies on the dollar of original price. Also it helps not to have an inflated opinion of your "stuff" because a garage sale will deflate that quickly! You can also find plenty of support for the idea that, if you'd like to just give it away, go ahead--don't ever feel you should get $$ back on it just because you spent $$ and feel guilty--only do it if the time/effort to $$ payoff works for you. That's why you'll hear feedback about how much work it is, because you can't really get "back" what you've invested. You can only get what you get. The find-a-good-home approach, maybe a particular family as above, has some benefits because it saves the time arranging for sale but lets you feel like you helped someone in particular. But I am happy with Goodwill which helps a charity but does the sorting and pricing for me.
