What did U bring home from the garage sale or thrift store?

I found "2" swivel bar stools @ the ARC for $20ea, in almost like new condition!!!! Here's the pic off the website where they are still offered for sale. :0) I'm thrilled!!!!

Neat lookin' stools. Good deal!

I don't go to garage sales, but used to go to auctions. One time I bid on and got, 350 paper back books. We had reading material for a long time.

There are good buys at Goodwill - I bought an almost new KitchenAid mixer (in blue) for $15 (they probably had no idea the real value). But, on the whole, the prices for housewares are quite high. I did tell the store manager and she did drop a lot of the prices on housewares. The clothing prices are fixed and on a board above the racks. Shirts for $3.59 are good deals in my mind since I use a bleach solution in my kitchen and am always spilling or spraying some on my clothes. You know they don't do any training or repairing by the handicapped like they used to. Now they are just a for-profit who gets their stuff free from donations. Such a deal. Must be quite profitable over all. Never see canning jars or decent mixing bowls here. I don't think there are very many canners in my neck of the woods. The dumps must be full of jars. I can't even get my regular jam-buying customers to return the jars to me! Nancy

The website sandra referenced also mentions kool-aid dyeing, and a third option (very appropriate this time of year) could be Easter Egg dye tablets! Snap them up at 1/2 price the day after for some cheap fun. Google can lead you to lots of yarn dyeing tutorials, even Kool-Aid color charts. Sorry, not enough time to reference my favorites right now, . . . because. . . I want to tell you about yesterday's thrift store finds. I was fortunate to hit a Salvation Army shop that is clearing out their winterweight sweaters for 99 cents! It's spring! Maybe some of your shops will do similarly. I found six: Old Navy, 70% cotton/30% lambswool, worsted weight, LIGHT BLUE with a KETTLE-DYED appearance Valerie Stevens ?, 100% LAMBSWOOL, sportweight, MARLED LIGHT BROWN, tan, & burgundy. Kind of blah, so maybe I'll over-dye it Outback Red, 100% wool, fingering, NAVY and med. blue TWEED WITH teeny ORANGE NUBS, and Very NEAT BUTTONS Weathervane, 100% wool, heavy worsted CREAM. This one will be dyed for sure. Open Country?, 100% Shetland wool, sport, OLIVE HEATHER, WITH a deep red, rust, yellow, and brown FAIR ISLE BAND. Yes, I'll save the contrast color bits, and store them with the olive, because one row across the front or back of a man's sweater is about equal to a row on a hat, and the color planning is already done for me. French Connection ?, 55% SILK, 30% acrylic, 15% ANGORA, Very Fine weight, multishaded grey. Don't know how successful an unravel this one will be, but I LOVE the 5 steel grey mother of pearl BUTTONS! Do I know now what any of them will become? No, and so I warn you again, this can be habit-forming.

What color should I spray these wicker thrift store chairs?

You can see that when I painted the glider, I selected a color that was similar to the bark on trees so I'm looking for contrast. I'm in southern Florida so these chairs will be under the tree all year long, though vinyl covers will be purchased. Now I'm looking for cushions before I make the decision about the wicker. I'm leaning toward the black finish provided I can find striped cushions & bright magenta pillows. Thank you for all your great responses.

I love garage sales, but really don't buy much for myself any more (too much "stuff", as it is), but I look for sheets, etc. that we can use for quilting at church. I do look at the books that may be offered, and can't resist that call. Last Saturday I went to one out in the boonies, listed as a moving sale, and in a 40x80 pole barn. It was mind boggling.....hundreds of dolls, lots of glassware, etc. The owner said everything was half off, but nothing was priced, so I lost my enthusiasm.

I only went to Goodwill this past week....but if I needed barstools they had great ones...but didn't need anything they had...had seen a piano in there and took Tanner in to look at it but he said it was no better then the one he already had....so nothing there and then we didnt get up in time for the garage sales on friday...LOL we were tooo sleepy!

I thought I was going to get rained out this week but the rain stopped early.

The first stop I only picked up two stuffed animals. Nick has a fit if I don't bring him something like that and for under $1 each, I oblige him. I admit I do it to keep him interested in yard sales!

Second stop was a jackpot of sorts. For $5 (she said she'd take $4 but since I had a 5 dollar bill, I gave her $5 since she discounted everything that was cheap to begin with), I got a bag of 5 bigger beanie babies, Halloween and Christmas themed. I find with small children, those are fun and safe to bring out around the holidays instead of traditional (breakable) decorations. I got a Phillies Jack in the Box. Dan loves Jack in the boxes but they can be so expensive. I also got an ornament, and a T-shirt to work out in - it says Miss Teen America Pageant LOL. Oh, I got a dance workout DVD too - I laughed since it was marked 'used only once'. There was a Christmas promotional CD in with that too. Remember ALL of it was $5.

I was going to quit but I brought Dan out for another run and I scored big - that dream item you specifically want but don't think you'll ever find. It was a Sesame Street tool bench with some extra tools for $3. Some of the Sesame Street tools are missing but Dan doesn't know. It still talks and he loves it. They have one at the daycare where Nick goes to before and after school and I used to have to tear Dan out of there kicking and screaming because of that tool bench. He played with it as I carried it to the car and had a screaming fit when I put it in the trunk.

Last stop I got two Sesame Street DVDs ($1 each) and a clay/ceramic loaf pan (25 cents).

Got a couple of books at Goodwill too.

I haven't been to any garage sales at all this year. A few years ago I'd be out both Friday and Saturday mornings and come home with a carload full. My house if FULL of garage sale finds and I really need to get rid of some of it instead of adding more.

That said I'm going to the mother of all sales later this week. The Catholic church has a huge rummage sale every summer and I always leave with a large box or two of goodies.

I just peered out the window as Eric drove past them this week. He was being so good that I didn't want to tempt fate! I do want to find a cheap stroller to convert to a cat stroller. I think Elmo and Stewie would like it once I got them into the carrier part and they realized they were NOT going to the vet, lol.

Wow Nicole, that's one/two awesome deals! I've been trying to stay away from Craiglist, thrift stores and garage sales later. My garage is already full of "great deals" I've yet to get ready for resale.

We just moved here a couple of months ago. One of my new neighbors was having a garage sale and I picked up an Ikea 3 drawer dresser for the front bedroom for $25. I've never had a dresser in my spare rooms before! Bonus!
