Should I bring my Jade plants inside??
Comments (7)I live in Milwaukee and will not be bringing my plants in until the end of September or early October depending, that is, on whether we get a frost spell or not. As I'm sure you've heard over and over, "cooler inland, warmer by the lake". Lake Michigan retains a lot of summer warmth and that keeps our temps warmer than say, Madison or even Beaver Dam. Also, we haven't gotten Indian Summer yet, so I think your plants will be fine. Many cacti and succulents can take temps down to the 20's. If you can't get them inside, you can always take temporary measures and cover them with some kind of permeable cloth. This would protect the plants, but let air flow continue. As for inducing plants to bloom, I can't say... hope this helps a little. Nancy...See MoreShould I bring my Feijoa Plant Inside? Zone 7B
Comments (4)The last two years I simply wrapped mine in frost cloth if it was going to get really cold. Well, last year I didn't have to, but I was set up for it by inserting three poles in the ground ahead of time. When it got to 17 I wrapped it, only because it was tiny. Now mine is a good size and I'll leave it. A friend in the neighborhood grows it just fine, no problems at all being hardy in the ground and evergreen. I would say if it's small and can afford itself little protection, mulch well, and wrap if necessary only when it hits those cold temps. and it's small but leave it where it is. If it's large, don't worry about it!...See MoreWhat temps are too low for citrus? high 40s tonight, should i bring in
Comments (8)How often should i water it during the winter months? It came planted in free draining soil. Should i just water when the leaves start to droop? Also it recently started to flower again. One bloom is not a very small fruit and there are a few buds that are still swelling and have yet to open. Do you think it will hold on to the fruit while inside for the winter? here is a pic of it when i first got it back in early April. It is still in the same pot but it has grew a little. Also when i was at a garden center this past weekend, they had the same kind of trees in the same pots but the trunks were much thicker that mine so i dont think i will worry about repotting for a while!...See MoreCut and bring my Fiddle Leaf Fig tree inside after new leaves?
Comments (2)Leave it outdoors to recover. Don't prune off the top unless you know it's dead or can convince yourself there is another good reason to do so. Most growers have more trouble with buguglies indoors than out. There are a couple of reasons for that. The first is, there are usually no predators that feed on bugs indoors, and the plant's defenses are directly related to it's metabolic rate. A plant growing robustly outdoors is much better able to defend itself against insects/diseases than plants just getting by in a low light indoor setting. BTW - what's growing at the base might appear to be no more than leaves, but you'll soon find they're nascent branches. Al...See MoreAlanna Migliacci
