Windows Design Dilemma Bedroom

help with window treatments and sitting area

In our master bedroom we have a good amount of space. I was thinking of adding a sitting area and wanted some ideas. Also I need window treatments and was not sure if standard panels on each window would look best. Also, I think we should mount the TV and get rid of the tv stand. Please send your ideas!

I’d be inclined to use fuller drapes than those pictured above, to completely cover the wall space, between the windows. I think it would give the room a more opulent feel and provide an opportunity to add some colour and pattern (you might even consider hanging two more panels, on either side of the windows over your bed). You could mount the TV on a bracket (consider one that moves up and down as well as side to side so you may alter the angle, depending on whether you are in bed or seated) but you still need a place for the “stuff” TV’s need and you need to hide the cords. It might be easier to leave it on a stand, perhaps a more decorative one, that compliments your other pieces. A seating area would be nice, particularly if you anchor it with a rug, to visually define it. Finally, you might want to add some art or sculpture to the room, or possibly bolder throw pillows, for visual interest.

I did mini blinds split at the center of the doors so I could open the slider side and walk outside. Years ago I bought the 2 inch slats and I loved the look (very plantation looking) but they were very heavy to open. I wore out the cords and had to replace them. I now have 1 inch privacy blinds but I feel like the are not as "open" as the 2 inch. My view feels a little more restricted. I ordered them from American Blinds and wallpaper and they were the Hunter Douglas brand. I hope this helps.

We are not window treatment people either, but have started to add some as we've reno'd/decorated a few of the rooms in our house; two bathrooms and our office. They really do help to finish off a room. That said, we're not covering our kitchen bow window, or the DR bow window, though I might consider something for the DR window at some point--just for the window panes themselves, not to cover the whole bow-unit. We used Hunter Douglas' Designer Screen Shades in the Roman Shade style (ours are mounted inside the frames becuase of our window style/frame depth). The shades are very clean-lined and range in sheerness. With the sheerer weaves/fabrics, you can see outside with them down and they allow a lot of light in.

I have many friends who have large families that all share a summer/weekend house. They have found that old dorm/camp cabin sleeping (single beds lined up in a row), is far better than built-in bunks. First of all, bunks are the devil to make-up and change sheets. They can also be hot. One friend used old curtains around each bed - like in a hospital - if one sleeper wanted privacy to change for bed. All children over a certain age slept in this room until they were grown. She grouped children by age, so when older ones came to bed, they would not disturb the younger ones. They also had a big "common room" with a TV, but it was really only for rainy days - everyone was expected to be outside doing something in nice weather. One has an actual barn set up this way, and her adult children take turns sleeping in a bedroom in the barn for safety.

I was thinking of hanging the curtains from the ceiling in the box? Rather than on the small wall again the picture gives an illusion there is space above the blinds but its the ceiling there is no space
