Painter People: Honey Oak Exorcism Help!
Comments (17)jhmarie, my husband came home and said" stop the madness", as I greeted him with face mask, protective glasses, and head to toe "dust". He's bringing home sanders from our shop (we own a contracting business, NOT painting). And then, we tried a small area of primer, which led us in a whole new direction as we realized that these "spindles" will not lend themselves to being painted the light color (as the little areas between spindle and rail/railing will absorb inconsistent paint..hard to explain), so maybe the java gel stain is in our future? Oh my, what a journey! But then, I know, harpists spend 90% of their time tuning the harp, and 10% playing....See MoreTwo tone walls with honey oak trim? Help.
Comments (3)I don't think it would be weird at all to paint the whole wall white (or any other colour) including the chair rail (that's the line of trim around the walls. The idea is that it protects the walls from being marred by a chair being pushed back from the table). Of you don't like the chair rail you could check under the one on the dividing wall; if the wall under it is nice you could probably take it right off with no problem. You might have some nail holes to fill but that's pretty easy. I really like white walls with oak trim. There are a lot of nice examples of it here on houzz....See MoreHelp - honey oak threw up in my kitchen.
Comments (82)paint will be your most cost effective way, especially if the kitchen is of good quality! Do white tops and a gray/blue lowers and i really think i would like to have a kitchen like it then....I did that for our house, and the kitchen is way outdated, but every comments on the colour scheme. The white counter will look sharp after you paint the lowers darker! All the best!...See MoreHelp?! How to get Honey Oak to match new cabinets??
Comments (22)@millworkman Honestly, that might not be an option given the high number of people in the same position I am in. Much like the attempt to get a restoration company (where you get an answering service, are lucky to get a call back within 24 hours, when most reviews say they were out in an hour or less... some have messages saying "we cannot help anyone new we are backlogged"). I also don't know what it would cost. I'm hoping with the massive disaster, the adjuster will be more understanding. It doesn't help my husband is a salvager by nature and doesn't see the point of destroying things that are technically fine. (sigh) He feels keeping the upper cabinets is perfectly okay because he just wants it done and surely they can make it match... @latifolia Getting a lot of estimates right now is also challenging, as most good contractors were already busy with people remodeling due to COVID and low interest rates (and no homes on the market to move to here, I think inventory is 40% of what it usually is). Adding tons of apartment buildings, hotels, and schools that were damaged, along with all of the homes means you might be waiting a long time to get someone to get back to you, and the last thing I want is one of those contractors that works one day a week and rotates between 6 jobs or something (I have heard horror stories of that) because at least now my kitchen is somewhat useable, compared to when it is fully emptied for whatever we have done....See Moredan1888
