Sweet Elderly Neighbor Not So Sweet
Comments (54)Gardenweb.com was excellent. Houzz bought it and changed it to this Post+Comment sillyness, buried it in their marketing site, and made it easier for people to accidentally resurrect dead posts. I'm not suggesting people didn't manage to resurrect dead posts in the old site. It was just much rarer and usually done by a bot that generally got fixed. It sometimes seems that anything that works well just must get damaged by some change. It seems any change to just about anything is almost always a change for the worse....See MoreRIP My Sweet, Sweet William
Comments (47)I can't believe that I'v been coming to The Kitchen Table for 10+ years. And we all never met each other. if I tried to explain this to anyone, they wouldn't believe how much I look forward to your posts when something major happens in my life. I love you guys. It's a strange thing to me how I love you all so much, but never met you. I think we are all in the same boat in this life of ours. and we all feel the same....See MoreCleo - Bench/Planter
Comments (34)No need to be terrified - what do you have to lose - fear keeps us from enjoying soooooo much. Not a master - just an old lady who loves what she does, and does what she loves. Yes, homemade or ready mix mortar, and yes on the diamond lath. I didn't use rebar in Cleo, a longer bench needs reinforcement, and I won't go into it here, but Riana showed us a new technique to avoid having to use rebar in benches. If you take her class, she'll show you, so I'll let her do the teaching. If you are making a long bench, let me know, and I'll give you a quick teaching note. It w/be long, so it might be better to do it via e-mail. I'm hankering to make another bench for my back area, so we might be able to build one together, and you can see what I do step by step. Let me know if you're interested. Like I said b/f, KLINGER, CALAM and I w/be happy answer any questions as you go forward. Can't wait to see your first WIP pics....See MoreRIP. Poet Vernon Scannell has died.
Comments (8)I think his poetry is very much underrated - he always has something to tell us about human experience in simple lyrical language (rather like Causley who also died fairly recently) something that tells each one of us that we are not alone - our fears, anxieties, experiences are shared by others - a bandage of comfort for our pains and always relevant: The Terrible Abstractions The naked hunter's fist, bunched round his spear, Was tight and wet inside with sweat of fear; He heard behind him what the hunted hear. The silence in the undergrowth crept near; Its mischief tickled in his nervous ear And he became the prey, the quivering deer. The naked hunter feared the threat he knew: Being hunted, caught, then slaughtered like a ewe By beasts who padded on four legs or two. The naked hunter in the bus or queue Under his decent wool is frightened too But not of what his hairy forebear knew. The terrible abstractions prowl about The compound of his fear and chronic doubt; He keeps fires burning boldly all night through, But cannot keep the murderous shadows out....See MoreDebbie Downer
