Paint Design Dilemma Exterior

Looking for an inspirational front door color/refresh

My new home is rather lacking curb appeal. The majority of the home is a light grey siding, with a white siding under the front of the porch section. I'd love to change the color of the front door to a feng shui appropriate color (green/brown, house faces east). Any suggestions out there for how to update the look of this place?

Lime green front door

beef up those posts w/cedar. you could wrap what you have. Something along this size. (or wrap them in the white,,,either will work)

I would paint the trim around your windows with a darker color (charcoal, black, bronze/brown) to give it some contrast.

Can you look on Craigslist for another door (if you're on a budget)? something with some glass, perhaps?

For instance, w/this door color, I'd do all of the trim and fascia in the same tone. stain the cedar posts a bit darker, paint the bricks the same color as your siding and perhaps tile that cement porch. It would look like a whole new space.

Thank you, thank you! I've been toying with the idea of painting my front door a different color, and this has definitely given me inspiration and colors to ponder! (Love that little lizard door handle, by the way!) On a completely unrelated ranty kind of note, I will be glad when those ginormous metal Texas stars fade into obscurity. ;-)

Here are few things to improve the look of your house without too much repainting. --First thing is to remove the shutters entirely for a streamlined look. --Paint both garage doors the color of the siding. --Paint the side entry doors to the garage the same color as the siding to make them disappear. Paint the entry door blue to stand out. --Get modern large bronze house numerals and larger sconces in bronze finish. --Spend your money on creating deep front garden beds up to the edge of the driveway, which will take the eye off those double garage doors that take up way too much visual space.. Go to a garden center and get someone to design the beds for you. Your driveway takes up so much visual space, extended beds of shrubs, perennials, and grasses, maybe even a few large rocks the color of your driveway would greatly improve the house. This mulch would be too dark. Something a bit reddish would work better with your house color but not that awful too-bright cedar red.

Really like shirlpp's link to laminate -- some very realistic white marbles, etc. If you add a white tile backsplash and white laminate countertop, you'll have a much, much nicer kitchen. I'd also look for a stainless-look dishwasher panel cover so that appliances (other than refrigerator) are consistent. I'd also look for a stainless, covered garbage can, if it needs to be visible. There's a lot of appliances on the counters -- depending on use and preference, you might want to store them behind doors. I really like the kitchen and dining floors -- are they terra cotta tile? It's hard to see the tall cabinet next to the laundry, but I think I would replace it with a nice furniture style armoire or tall cabinet as a large, decorative but functional accent piece. And as someone who LOVES light fixtures, I'd change the boob lights. All in all, I think your kitchen will look great, and I hope you post the 'after' photos to prove it.

When I was stationed in Lakenheath England ( I am a retired US Air Force Captain), I fell in love with all the colorful front doors that most countryside homes had: all colors of the rainbow 🌈 ❣️ I think a bright pop of color on a door puts a smile on your face and is quite unexpected. As I get older I am loving more color in my home. I just had a new front door installed and plan to paint it with Behr color: “Sweet Grass” when the weather gets warmer. You could paint your front door with just about any color.

uploaded a pic of the entire front from when I bought it. I've since removed the screen door and changed the sconces to what you're seeing in the first pictures.

maybe some pea gravel and potted plants on that asphalt? unless you can take it out, try and make it look as nice as possible.

You could paint the cement to look like, slate, or stone

Good ideas above Beth, like rock paths, big planters with bright green foliage & pops of bright colors.

Good idea to thicken the posts to balance out the look. Maybe even stone around bottoms with waterproof cement.

Make the path the way people go naturally.

Painting the door and updating the driveway are important but professional landscaping will have the biggest positive impact!

I would have a few landscapers come to your home and then draw up a plan. They can incorporate plans for the driveway, too. When they present a completed plan and cost you can decide what you might want to do first, and then do the rest in stages if necessary. By having a few options you can see how they might vary. Be sure to ask to see some of their work.
