Comments (4)Yes. LP has bigger chunks of wood and generally the bigger the piece of wood, the slower the rot. In my casual observations of scrap left on bare ground, the Miratec deteriorates much faster. I think LP is using better, more rot resistant adhesives but have nothing to back that up. LP is closer akin to OSB and Miratec is closer to fiberboard/particle board. OSB is far more structural. I find this logic backed up by LP being more installer friendly(easier to handle longer pieces without breaking)....See MoreOpinions on HardiePlank Beaded siding?
Comments (8)qbryant - I built my house 13 years ago with HardiePlank and when I had the house painted this past summer, the painters found and repaired any defects. Nothing was wrong with any of the HardiePlank. The object is to put it up properly so that no moisture will get in or behind it. HardiePlank is like brick - you will never have to replace it under normal circumstances. Vinyl will eventually breakdown and will have to be replaced....See MoreExterior Finishes Help?
Comments (4)I don't see the wood with the repose gray. Why do you think a color will be overwhelming? In reality, all white is the most overwhelming because it's the most stark. I would pick a color for the house that would help the house sit on the land. Either a soft grayed blue or a soft grayed green. Those would look smashing with the wood accents. Then I'd do a soft white for trim. The advantage of a metal roof is the lifetime warranty of it and it basically having less problems. However, if you're in heavy snow country, I'd consider just shingles instead. Also if you want to save some money, you can go with a 5v crimp roof. That's what we did. We figured by the time we'd need to replace the screw thingys, we'd be long gone. YMMV. As for color, I picked the natural gavalume color as silver tends to go with anything. Plus if you're in a warm climate, it will help deflect the heat a bit keeping the house cooler. I agree with you. No shutters. It adds nothing to the look of your house. Cornices should be trim color....See MoreHelp with Exterior Paint Color
Comments (2)Match the trim to the roof color. It will unite the roof and the gables nicely....See MoreUser
