We are using a combo of hardie and Nichiha. Our home will be a board & batten with shingle style. We used the Nichiha shake/shingle which was considerably less expensive and quicker to install because it comes in larger sections. The plank sections were hardie and the battens were Nichiha. All our soffits, window trim, and fascia boards were hardie. Our lumber supplier priced the hardie soffit & fascia at the same price as Miratec so we went with Hardie.

Nichiha is just as good in my experience. I want to ask all they people out there.. Whats the point in using fiber cement lap siding and then trimming in Miratec? I can see certain situations it might help but for the most part the miratec becomes the weak point. Check out LP smartside. I like it better for trim and siding.

Yes. LP has bigger chunks of wood and generally the bigger the piece of wood, the slower the rot. In my casual observations of scrap left on bare ground, the Miratec deteriorates much faster. I think LP is using better, more rot resistant adhesives but have nothing to back that up.

LP is closer akin to OSB and Miratec is closer to fiberboard/particle board. OSB is far more structural. I find this logic backed up by LP being more installer friendly(easier to handle longer pieces without breaking).
