need some ideas for bedroom floors and walls

We just completed updating our 1990 colonial home on the first floor. All the carpet has been replaced with Santos mahogany flooring, all the wallpaper removed and now painted in various shades of grey, and all the oak wood work been stripped and now painted colonial white. We continued the mahogany up the stairs to the hallway/landing on the 2nd floor, and where we also stripped the oak baseboards/casings and painted them white. Good so far (photos of family room, steps, hallway attached).

Now we are starting the 4 bedrooms, all of which have carpeting and the same stained oak. Like the first floor will be stripping the oak to be painted white. The bedroom with green carpeting is also attached.

The thing we struggle with what to do for the floors in each of the 4 bedrooms. We want get rid of the carpet, but not sure what to replace it with. I am 90% sure I want full 3/4" hardwood, but am uncertain as to what type or color. I do not want use a laminate wood or vinyl, as both "feel" hollow. We also want to use the same floor in all 4 bedrooms. Once the floor is chosen we will pick fairly neutral colors for the bedrooms. I'm partial to grey/blue shades, but could be convinced otherwise.

So there in lies my dilemma, and I seek the input from this broader audience for their insight, creativity, and brilliance in helping me device a workable and attractive color pallet! Thanks in advance for all your help.

It looks beautiful!

Continue the same mahogony hardwood into the bedrooms. The same flooring throughout a home gives a sense of continuity. A different wood species is going to look choppy.

I would continue the same floor into all four bedrooms and use the wall colors as you see fit.

With that ceiling you want something with a little orange in it. I don't know SW colors well, but I think - yes, again - BM Capitol White would be gorgeous with the pine ceiling. I'd also look at BM Beach Haven And here is my pine-ceiling DR with BM Putnam Ivory (which I kind of wish I'd painted in Beach Haven) And FYI: SO important, do at least three coats of BIN or Zinsser 123, otherwise, you will have those pine knots bleeding through the paint. I'd even put two extra coats over the knots themselves.

Ok more info. Go to your ideabooks. Click on one. In upper right corner it says “select” and there are 3 dots ... Click on those dots. A menu will display. Click on “Ideabook settings”. That should bring up screen where you can slide button over to make that ideabook “private”. Then click “done” in upper right corner and you should see lock on ideabook when next displayed. Try it. Let me know if it works for you. There might be other ways but this seemed to work.

I think you would be safe carrying the theme throughout, but if you do want to change it up a little bit in the bedrooms as far as color, do a grey with a touch of blue in it. It will break up all the grey and will set each room apart from the rest of the house in a good way. I love the color and flooring choices you've made so far, so aside from any ideas given here, I think you are doing a great job!

I did read it thoroughly. My understanding is that the flooring has already been replaced with mahogony. The finished mahogony floors are shown in the OP photos.

My understanding is that the OP is now asking what type of flooring should go in the bedrooms and my answer was to continue the mahogany flooring into the bedrooms.

"Stripping the oak to paint it white" I understood referred to the trim.

OP, please let us know if any of us misunderstood the question.

No lascatx, you can't read! The TRIM is being stripped, the floors are currently carpet. The mohogany floors are newly installed, so there is zero chance there are wood floors under the carpet.

I can read -- I misunderstood. And I'm glad the OP is not going to strip those floors. Just saw something that made the idea that someone would do that plausible. I apologize, CDR, and deleted my post to not detract from the discussion. I agree with continuing the flooring in the bedrooms.

Me too. Continue the mahogany flooring everywhere. I would just replace all the trim in the bedrooms when you do the flooring.

When you remodel a home, I advise having an overall plan. Now, since you've already installed the mahogany flooring, you have 2 choices if you want to continue it into the pink and blue bedroom.

1) remove the threshold and pay extra to have the boards threaded into the hall boards

2) Don't pay extra, but have a threshold break up the contiguous line that would have run from hall into bedrooms.

The teal bedroom won't be an issue.

The one board threshold is the way to go. If you replace the baseboard, you won't need the shoe mould.

No, Sue, I didn't chastise them on their ability to read, but asked if they had read it. It appeared had skipped over a longish post, saw photos and didn't read. That happens all the time here and folks get replies that directly contradict what they say they want to do or are willing to do. It frustrates me. I thought that had happened here and it had not. I was the one who was confused, though I did read it. I was distracted this morning and am still waiting for something that needs an immediate turnaround, so I will leave it at that. I posted to contribute, not chastise and I've already apologized.

thanks for all the insight and perspectives on my decoration dilemma. One final question. The floor you see in the pics is 3" width which is no longer available. Should I go with 3 1/4" or 5" widths instead? Everything else (type, style, finish, etc) other than width remains the same.

I’d go with the 5”. The 3 1/4 is going to look just enough off to look odd.
