Mudroom flooring
Comments (12)I don't see a problem with two different floorings, but I think three -- as someone mentioned -- is a little too broken up. I also vote against tile that looks like wood. I'd either use wood (with its lack of waterproofness) or something entirely different. I do care about the product holding up well, so I'd vote for something entirely different: A slate or tile. We're going to have a "back hallway", which will serve the following functions: - casual entrance from the garage - entrance to the laundry room - entrance to the downstairs bathroom - exit out to the covered porch /pool It's going to be a hardworking space. Because it'll be adjacent to the kitchen, I'm going to use the same tile in the kitchen and this back hallway . . . and it'll run on into the laundry room and bathroom....See MoreROUGH estimate for mudroom/laundry remodel?
Comments (2)The moldings, bench, cabinets, and counter could probably be installed by the same carpenter (just make sure he's done laminate before - don't let your project be his guinea pig). The flooring by a tile guy. The painting by a third guy. And that's it. As long as he is not making the cabinets (just installing them), I'd say the carpentry work is maybe $2500. Painting the room, moldings, and bench should be under $1000. Maybe $700? Cost of your tile labor should be around $700 too, assuming the floor is not crazy out of level and you demolish the old floor yourselves. So say $5000 in labor to give you cushion, plus the cost of materials, which your choice of cheap vs. expensive tile, cheap vs. expensive paint, etc. would affect greatly. Since you are not moving plumbing or electrical and would have so few subs, this might be one you want to GC yourselves to save the money you would pay for project management. You could come in under $10,000 easy. Possibly more like $8,000....See MoreMudroom / Pantry Floor
Comments (12)Another vote for tile. Less flooring transitions and if something liquid spills, it won't damage any hardwoods. We were cleaning out our pantry recently and discovered vegetable oil that had spilled on the floor of our hardwood pantry (ours is a reach-in in the kitchen). It did enough damage that we had to rip it out and replace the boards....See MoreNEED Functional MUDROOM!
Comments (4)IMO mud rooms at best are a mess so the more closed storage the better. I have used lockers with everyone having one to a wall of closets to cubbies and hanging space > I much prefer the closets or lockers. As for seating really a bench for 2 will suffice. Shoes go in bins on the wall or under the bench . Bench on outside wall shoe and boot storag on othe rwall with windows with a closet on each side of window and the tlockers or closet on the DR side...See MoreMagpie
