Need advice on choosing last exterior color(s)
Comments (1)I think it's more important to find a color that goes best with the brick, if it has to be a choice. Having the cement color look like cement is fine...and not necessary to have it match as much. I would also match downspouts and soffit to the siding...I wouldn't want the downspouts standing out as if they were trim. Instead I consider them a 'necessary evil' and want them to disappear against the siding....See MoreExterior Facelift (Paint Color w/Brick and New Garage Doors)
Comments (0)As you can see, our home is long overdue for an exterior refresh. We plan to tear out the outdated, overgrown boxwoods and replace with fresh landscaping, but that’s another thread… My questions are threefold: What is a good exterior paint color? I do not like the present gray. I was thinking BM Putnam Ivory (sample board on right side of garage) with White Dove for the trim (i.e., porch columns for sure), but am open to suggestions. I will paint the gutters a match as close to the brick as possible (BM Coyote Trail?) so they will hopefully fade away. On the ‘triangle peaks’ on the right side of the house’s roofline, am I supposed to paint the “trim” a different color, or paint it all the body color as it is presently? I’m not sure how to separate which color I paint where (fascia, soffit, body, trim, etc.). What about window trim -- body color or trim color? Please recommend a garage door style. It is hard for me to visualize different styles since there is a two-car and a one-car door and they are at the front of the house – it is such a massive expanse. Should I leave the front door stained wood with a wood-color garage, or paint one or both? Thank you for your help! "triangle peaks"...See MoreNeed help/advice on exterior paint, windows and garage doors

My house was hit by a hailstorm and I'm having to make big decisions quickly. I really don't want to screw up - a lot of these decision will have to last 10+ years and each decision might influence the others. I'm very excited not to have a pink house much longer! I'm leaning towards a creamy white with black accents and wood-looking garage doors? Here's what's going on: - the roof has already been replaced and I went with a dark charcoal shingle. From the street you can't really see my roof - New Milgard French Doors were installed in the back. The exterior is black and somewhat modern - There are two big picture windows that are newish - they are white. The 2nd photo shows both - I just bought two black barn lights to over the garage doors - https://www.lampsplus.com/products/warehouse-10-inch-high-black-gooseneck-outdoor-wall-light__9c417.html Problems: - the front of the house is all garage, so the garage doors are very important. Right now they are basic white. - there's no front porch and you can't see the front door to paint it a fun color. - there's not much architectural interest to the house. Will white be too bland? - the windows in the front don't have enough space to put shutters on Decisions I need to make: - exterior paint color - garage doors. It will probably be a couple years before I can afford new ones, but I want to paint my house with new ones in mind. - windows - black or white? I love my new black French doors and I was thinking of getting black windows, but they're much more expensive. Much more. I appreciate any and all help and feedback! Comments (14)Snap a photo on a sunny day then use the Sherwin Williams ColorSnap app to play with the colors. I would select a tone slightly darker than your mortar for the garage door and a color slightly darker than your darkest brick for the front door. I would then on the garage door install magnetic faux hinges and windows; this will add detail to the door, like the below house. I know they can be found on Amazon, not sure where else.
