Comments (12)"Cabbage rose" was first used to describe the Centifolias, then later the term was applied to some Hybrid Perpetuals which had a similar flower form. I think the term continued to be used (if rather incorrectly) to describe almost any many-petaled rose with the old flower shape (as opposed to the high-centered shape epitomized by Hybrid Teas and some of the later old Teas). If you saw flowers that late in the season, it's not a Centifolia -- but that's apparent by looking at the pics, anyway. To my eye, it looks rather Tea-ish, which could mean it's actually a Tea, or a Hybrid Perpetual (or Bourbon) with Tea breeding, or an early Hybrid Tea. I'm hoping that more Tea experts from CA will chime in with stronger opinions. :-) ~Christopher...See More'Key West' hosta
Comments (15)Mk, thank you! - it happened exactly as you described your DQ, lol! I was off close to a foot! and Too far to the left. Lol. Yes, right on again - pips are so tiny and barely up - 1 larger one and 2 smaller ones but an increase from 1 last year :). Glad you found your DQ and discovered an increase too! :D hostahosta, thank you, that is useful to know! Something else occurred to me about its late arrival. It is on the side of the fence where it is the coolest in the morning (and the wettest) and shaded in part by the house and the house next door so right now, the May sun sits lower in the sky yet and hits that half later. It is 12:30 and it is still shaded. Around 1:30 it should be sunny there....at least 2 hours slower/longer than in summer, understandably. "Better late than never"! :D ALSO found Diana Remembered! I was so determined she was hiding I started ripping out the sweet woodruff - yes, you guessed it! There it was - engulfed in ground cover! a huge pip up at least an inch....plus a couple wee ones still emerging! Yes!!! ALL ACCOUNTED FOR! Great beginning of the season - so very pleased with all my hostas! Poor Fire and Ice - pulled off more pips that were rotted at crown level. Poked around for more survivors - heading back out to perform some surgical cleaning. It would have been amazing this year - it's leap year. :(. It's not a total loss...I can always replace/add to it if it's puny. :)...See MoreWhat would you buy

Comments (24)Wow those are some beautiful plants! Very romantic looking :). Actually, the more I read about it, the more I'm interested in the Lamarque there. I'm also trying to research to see what any of the Chinas or Albas have to offer, as they apparently have a wonderful scent. Gallicas kind of have my eye too (all that history appeal and talk of medicinal properties is seductive), but I'm not so sure how much luck I'd even have with that group here in Ocala. So far it seems my best bet is probably gonna be something from the noisette or the china group... just gotta find which ones can deal with that sultry florida sun and humidity lol. Your guys' advice is wonderful, by the way. It's really helping me to focus on only a few groups to find what suits my needs, as opposed to all roses ever. (It's kind of spurred me into a days long research fest on comparing the different rose groups ^_^). Anyone know of any white scented chinas that do exceptionally well in central FL?...See Moresuncoastflowers
