Favorite Movie Scene--'Waaaay Back
Comments (21)Pidge, you made ME remember Snow White!----it was the first film I remember seeing, also----it was when we lived in DC or Tacoma Park, MD. My favorite scene was when Snow White was cleaning the cottage--- I was enthralled by how beautiful she made it-- --it was a HOME when she was through! I was in awe. The Queen frightened me so much, I couldn't sleep. I remember Mom also taking me to see a foreign film---it was Japanese and sub-titled. She kept explaining to me in whispers what the plot was about---I was 4 or 5 ---I was worn out from hearing her whisper in the dark and people started 'Hurumphing' at her. I remember the beautiful Japanese mother had hidden her child from the Japanese soldiers, then she hid, but they found her---I was so frightened. I think I saw it later in life----was it 'The Pearl'? I just can't remember the title.... What about the shower scene from 'Psycho'?---Did ANYONE take a shower for the following three WEEKS?!!!! ---The foggy, heather-laden scenes from 'Brigadoon'..... How about Abbot and Costello and the 'hauling the piano up the long flight of stairs' scene? Snort-Snort--choking on popcorn.... Audrey Hepburn, gazing at the goodies in Tiffany's windows at dawn----that beee--yuuuu-tiful long neck of hers.... Grace Kelly slowly turning on the lamps in Jimmy Stewart's apt. in 'Rear Window', her wonderful charm bracelet barely clicking against the lamps' necks as she turned the knob on each one---I think I was 9 or 10----I just HAD to be her when I grew up!!! How could this world hold such beautiful creatures as Hepburn and Kelly? Pidge; could you name some more of your favorites? You're so good at this film stuff----you'd wake our memories up!!...See MoreIt was like a scene from an Alfred Hitchcock Movie
Comments (43)Hmmmm. The Hummers nest in the American Red Cedar and in the quince. The Downy WPs and the Flickers nest in two huge Weeping Willows. The White-breasted Nuthatch and Creepers are in the Willow and an ancient pear tree. My dear little Black-capped Chickadees are in a natural cavity in a cluster of old crabapple trees. The Common Grackles made a nest in the Blue Atlas Cedar and a crabapple tree in the front yard. The Starlings nest in an old bird house my father made many years ago. The Robins nest in the bend of the gutter under the eaves of the house at the corner next to our bedroom. Red-Winged Blackbirds are off in a part of the garden we have not mowed on purpose. The House Wren was in a nest box in the Tri-coloured Beech tree. The Carolina Wrens nested in the holly bush in the front yard under the kitchen window, also in a nest box (or two in the back), under an over turned bucket on the patio and under a flower pot near the compost pile. We have 20-25 nest boxes of many varieties hanging everywhere too. White crowned Sparrows are in the honeysuckle vines. My little House Sparrows are in several of the nest boxes. The Cedar Waxwings are nesting in a Blue Spruce in the front yard. The Song Sparrows, Chipping Sparrows and Vespers Sparrows are in the Blue Spruce trees, Passionflower vines, clematis and honeysuckle vines. Chimney Swifts (2 nests) in our two chimneys. The House Finch and Purple Finch are in the wisteria and magnolia tree. The Goldfinch usually make their nests in the Red Bud tree and Willows. The Baltimore Orioles are in the Willows and Silver Maple Trees. The Mourning Doves put three sticks together in the American Red Cedar and called it a nest. LOL! The Blue Jay is in the Cottonwood tree and the Cardinals are in the Blue Atlas Cedar. The other guys ... the Turkey Vultures, the Herons, Common Mergansers, Mallards, Ring-billed Gulls, Egrets, Crows and Screech Owls are guests but not nesting on our property. LOL! They DO need to put a sign out. Caution Baby on Board! LOL! :-)...See MoreShow us some of your favorite pots or containers
Comments (189)Wow, so many lovely pots and plants. Nanzjade those are awesome, I would love to see them planted. Jeff that is very cute, i might have to get myself some. A pot my mum gave me, planted with mint that I have since moved elsewhere. Recently planted with kalanchoe rotundifolia: I caught this pot of aloe and kalanchoe in rather striking sunshine today. My Nanna gave me the pot filled with garlic chives. It was an unfortunate shade of green. The garlic chives are now happy in the ground, and the pot has been repainted, though a little of the former shade shows through, which I like: This is Styrofoam and was packaging for bathroom shelving, I think. There is even a readymade drainage hole in each section. I painted them, of course. I have four of these....See MoreShow us your favorite lamp or light fixture-Pt. Two
Comments (62)This is one of the pair of lamps that were on my grandmother's dressing table. I love them. I had to have the shades re-covered because they have unusual frames and would not look the same with a normal modern shade. One is the Greek Comedy and the other is Tragedy. As an aside, the little wooden plaque was made (well, glued I guess since teachers probably made actually made it) by my son when he was in preschool-it says "When in doubt, hug."...See MoreSueb20
