Tudor Exterior Paint Makeover Help Please
Comments (18)@tozmo1 agree with you on the all solid color, which is why we were thinking siding. We've seen tudor half timbers painted same color as the stucco but haven't seen it executed well. We have the late 80's textured stucco, and everywhere we've read says it will be impossible to remove the timbers and patch without being able to spot it as a patch a mile away. At that point we're looking at removing all of the stucco and simply starting over. We're hoping to be able to save on costs by being able to go right over the existing stucco facade....See MoreExterior color for Tudor revival?
Comments (8)Wow! Thanks, everyone. Very helpful and thoughtful feedback. I think I like the idea of the darker charcoal gray trim, but red & gray is not necessarily my favorite color combo. I may see if I can find a dark gray that leans brown. Totally agree that gray suits the roof better. I hadn’t thought about removing the shutters, but it looks like the brick is fine underneath, so I’ll give that a try. Do tudors typically not have shutters? One follow up: For the windows, we are definitely removing the storm windows (which are brown in the pictures I uploaded). Underneath the storm windows, the windows and window trim are all the same creamy white as the stucco. Would you (1) keep the windows and window trim all white, (2) paint them all brown/gray, or (3) mix the two (i.e., brown/gray window trim, white windows)? Does that make sense? Note the white plantation shutters inside. This house down the street from us is my inspiration for window paint option #3, if this helps you visualize what I’m talking about. Also a nice dark brown trim. Thanks!...See MoreWhat would you do to spruce up Tudor Exterior?
Comments (23)I trust everyone using this board is using Windows. ipads are abysmal navigationally. Wanted to leave a simple comment for Debbie Downer about her butt sinking into foam matresses and firing her therapist. Here was my first attempt with dictation bc of a disability. see photo Debbie perhaps look elsewhere you exterior looks good to me. You can always improve but at some point you ask yourself how valuable your time is. I hope the furniture from houzz is better than their website. 🤬 ……https://www.houzz.com/discussions/6306068/what-would-you-do-to-spruce-up-tudor-exterior...See MoreTudor exterior paint
Comments (9)FYI no one is going to flog you for not replacing vinyl windows that someone else put in. Yeah we may have questioned you if you were the ones to remove instead of renovate original 1934 windows . We historic preservationists are not all the snooty bunch that some imagine... some window renovation options (vs replace with new) can often be cheaper than new, and look better esthetically... but if the ship has sailed, oh well! Just start setting aside some $$$ for replacement with something more esthetic 20 yrs down the line when the vinyl windows will fail. In an artsy historic area its always worth striving to be the house on the block that passersby stop and admire, and the friendly comments from your neighbors is good for morale! The problem with stark stark white vinyl is that unfortunately it does drive the color scheme, and not always in a good way.... so y es, you do want something that works visually..... so yeah, make the trim white but then give a nod to tradition with a historic color in the blue/green/ gray/ gray-brown range. I would go mid-quite dark for some added drama - more befitting of an artsy neighborhood I think than soft polite pastel! BTW your house looks more Gothic Revival Farmhouse (an 1800s thing) than what I would think of as "Tudor" . The gothirc arch window is a signature feature. Google images for Gothic Revival Farmhouse, there's some really lovely color combos some which would work well with white trim....See MoreLara Knight
