Beach Cottage Needs Exterior Paint Makeover: Help!
Comments (0)At a loss here, folks! I'm terrible at visualizing and gave up on trying to sketch in colors myself on the Ben Moore or Sherm Williams websites. Would loooovveeee if someone out there could give it a whirl! Kindly seeking your suggestions for body and trim colors for this waterfront beach house in a New England fishing community. Neighboring home is brown cottage (see pic) and would love to somehow tie two homes together, but without making the main house brown. Most homes are weathered shingles..grey, dull. Would like to stay with light, warm colors...no yellows or blues. Thanks in advance....See MorePlease help with exterior colors & lighting for 1930s Tudor
Comments (0)We are having our house painted next month. Here it is currently: I would eventually like to have the roof replaced (when necessary — not for many years) with cedar shakes, and some day I’d like to have copper gutters and a black and creme color scheme. I’d like to move in this direction, but not sure whether dark half-timbering would look odd with a brown roof, or if creme would be too light for the stone. I’d love feedback about either of these options: Second, can anyone suggest a nice bedroom ceiling light fixture with 2+ bulbs? I like schoolhouse lights, but they seem to use only one bulb, which I think may make the room too dark. The bedroom ceilings are only 7’6” high, and I am looking for something approximating an original 1930s fixture. Thanks in advance for any suggestions!...See MoreHelp with the design of the exterior - mock Tudor timber and rendering
Comments (12)Aren't most Tudor homes "mock" LOL? (Although I loved the "real" Tudor homes when we visited Shrewsbury in 2019.) Mine is a Tudor style too and I love it. And I live in Toronto so we don't have any genuine Tudors because...Toronto didn't exist during the Tudor era LOL. Agree that cream vs white is the way to go. It looks good with the rendering and half-timbering all the way across. My area of the city has lots of these Tudors and people have painted the rendering all sorts of colours - white, cream, tan, gray. IMO the nicest look is cream with a dark warm brown e.g. Benjamin Moore's Tudor brown for the half-timbering. I'd add some diagonal half-timbering too, just because I think it looks good. Where it makes sense, paint any white or dark gray wood in the same dark brown. Maybe your garage door just needs a coat of paint. Paint or stain your front door dark brown too and it will fit in. Your yew hedge will give you privacy once it's filled in. Not sure what your plans are for landscaping, but in the meantime if you had one large planter it would give your house a lift. Depends on your climate, we don't know where you are. Very nice house....See MoreTudor style house exterior makeover S.O.S.!
Comments (3)Is your current budget for a complete new paint job or more extensive work? For complete new paint, I suggest a "cedar" color take from the reddish bricks for the shakes with an offwhite trim to match the lighter stones. If just repainting the trim, use the offwhite of the stones as a guide. Please post an update when you are ready....See MoreCelery. Visualization, Rendering images
